古儒吉大師講瑜珈經(jīng):瑜珈的紀(jì)律 1-1

巴坦加里瑜伽經(jīng)言開始。(th = t + h, ? = sh)
Now we will look into the discipline of yoga.
Now I annunciate the discipline of yoga.
?asanam means rules that somebody else puts on you.
anu?asanam is the rule that you put on yourself.
you see the difference?
?asanam is the rule or regulation that the king or the society imposes on you.
anu?asanam is the rule you make on yourself.
why yoga is called a discipline?
where is the need for a discipline?
when does the need for a discipline arise?
say when you’re thirsty, you want to drink water. we don’t say this is a rule you must drink water.
or you take a discipline to drink water.
when you’re hungry, you eat. you don’t say there is a discipline for eating when I have hunger.
do you see what I’m saying?
I don’t even say I have a discipline of enjoying the nature.
when it comes to enjoyment, no discipline is necessary.
where does discipline come?
not somewhere very enjoyable at very first step.
child never says I have a discipline of running to my mother when I look at her.
discipline arises where something is not very charming to begin with.
doesn’t it?
when you know that something would give a fruit which is very enjoyable, but the seed to begin with is not that enjoyable.
when you’re abiding yourself, when you’re enjoying peace or happiness, then you’re already in yourself, there is no discipline there.
but when it is not so, the mind is … all the time, then the discipline is essential.
so that it could calm down, it could come back to yourself.
the fruit of it is, eventually, peaceful, joyful.
are you getting what I’m saying?
like a diabetic patient I have a discipline not to eat sugar.
someone with a cholesterol says I have to be disciplined, I shouldn’t take too much fats.
because fat is very nice to eat at that moment, but later it gives complicated results.
which is not so pleasurable.
