在2001年的北美國際車展上，克萊斯勒汽車發(fā)布了Crossfire Concept概念跑車，該車由設(shè)計師Eric·Stoddard先生完成，這位設(shè)計師表示制造這款概念車是為了“喚起強烈、熱情和情感的反應(yīng)。我們必須保留這一點。我們想讓我們的消費者兩極分化——我們希望人們喜歡它或討厭它?！?/p>

在2002年的洛杉磯車展上，克萊斯勒汽車發(fā)布了Corssfire原型車，此次外觀改進由設(shè)計師Andrew·Dyson先生完成，同時這也是在向公眾發(fā)布一個信息：Crossfire即將投入量產(chǎn)。

2003年3月，Corssfire正式發(fā)售，并分別推出Coupe和Roadster，由德國卡曼公司生產(chǎn)。

之所以稱為Corssfire，是因為車子側(cè)面的兩根腰線會形成交匯，于是設(shè)計師就把賦予了這臺車這個名稱。其中Coupe的車尾造型十分獨特，溜背線條夸張但又不失自然，這很符合設(shè)計師所要的“獨特”、“獨一無二”效果。

Crossfire的中控采用“T”自行設(shè)計，實用簡潔。

當年國內(nèi)是有Crossfire的Coupe車型發(fā)售，當時2004款的售價為61萬。假如在街上見到的它，你一定會被它獨特的車尾造型所吸引，但是這款跑車的問題還是很多的。

看完前面的動力總成介紹，甚至是看內(nèi)飾部分就有人知道，Crossfire有大量奔馳的元素，其實也很正常，當時是克萊斯勒汽車于戴姆勒集團的“蜜月期”，Crossfire是與奔馳SLK的R170車型同平臺打造而來的，而且零件是與SLK320版本高度共享的。根據(jù)統(tǒng)計，Crossfire與SLK320的中控臺、底盤結(jié)構(gòu)、懸掛系統(tǒng)、等等部件是共用的，甚至是發(fā)動機艙的規(guī)格都是相同的。根據(jù)資料統(tǒng)計，兩款車之間的零件共享率高達80%。這些來自奔馳汽車部件聽起來很可靠，但實際上已經(jīng)算是屬于落后技術(shù)了（在推出Crossfire的第二年也就是2004年，第二代SLK也就是R171車型正式面世，相當于是奔馳把老舊技術(shù)丟給克萊斯勒處理了）。

大猩猩曾在2003年的Top Gear中猛烈抨擊了Crossfire，稱“很難在 Crossfire 中找到真正有效的東西”；他注意到它的操控性差、內(nèi)飾便宜、路感差，并表示任何對Crossfire感興趣的人都應(yīng)該購買二手梅賽德斯R170（大猩猩批評了Crossfire的“丑陋”造型，聲稱它的車尾造型類似于狗在排便。）

Top Gear雜志也引用了大猩猩的評論，將Crossfire列入其“過去 20 年最糟糕的13輛汽車”名單，將其描述為“一個在現(xiàn)實世界中未能取得成績的半體面概念. 一個第一代奔馳SLK，在它推出之前就已經(jīng)過時了。風(fēng)格戰(zhàn)勝內(nèi)容的終極勝利，只有沒有風(fēng)格。或者有很多內(nèi)容。（原文：Top Gear?magazine, citing Clarkson's review, included the Crossfire on its list of "The 13 Worst Cars of the Past 20 Years", describing it as, "A half-decent concept that failed to make the grade in the real world. 《每日電訊報》汽車評論家Stephen·Bailey在2004年的評論中抨擊了 Crossfire；“這無疑是我開過的最糟糕的汽車。令人難以置信的是，工程貴族，以前稱為梅賽德斯-奔馳的藝術(shù)家，將他們的名字與這種美學(xué)、功能和社會暴行聯(lián)系在一起?！?（原文：The Daily Telegraph?auto critic Stephen Bailey slammed the Crossfire in a 2004 review; "This is indubitably the worst car I have ever driven. “Edmunds.com”將Crossfire列為過去十年最嚴重的失敗汽車之一；“過時的循環(huán)球轉(zhuǎn)向使其響應(yīng)緩慢，操控性令人失望，同時駕駛也很嚴酷。為了進一步增加缺點，內(nèi)飾未能達到預(yù)期，整體性能和日常便利性也是如此。在最后，即使席琳·迪翁也無法拯救Crossfire，最后的侮辱是在overstock.com和eBay上出售剩余物品時。”（原文：Edmunds.com named the Crossfire one of the top automotive failures of the last decade; "The antiquated recirculating-ball steering made it slow to respond, handling was disappointing and at the same time, the ride was harsh. 相比于普通動力版，Crossfire的性能版吧STR-6相對要好那么一些，盡管這算是SLK32 AMG的換殼。。。。。
