For Indigo De Souza, love is an action. “Hold U,” the second single off her upcoming album Any Shape You Take, is a celebration of corporeal love in the form of communal kinship. It’s also a display of De Souza’s narrative skill: She strips away what surrounds emotions, presenting them in their rawest state.
癏old U”是她即將發(fā)行的專輯《Any Shape You Take》中的第二支單曲,是借社區(qū)鄰里間的親密關(guān)系對肉體之愛的慶祝,這也側(cè)面顯示了 De Souza 精湛的敘述技巧。
This openness is replicated in the music video. It begins with De Souza looking straight at the camera, crooning, “You are a good thing, I’ve noticed.” As friends settle into the room, they’re guided by an electric guitar and bass that intertwine beneath the melody. De Souza’s intimate hangout evolves as she demands to be held, granting approval for everyone to rejoice. As she shouts, “I’m not the only body/I’m not the only one,” we move to the dancefloor, where queer bodies revel in embrace as vocal harmonies take flight. It’s a simple yet powerful message: ?“Hold U” masterfully illustrates that our survival rests upon the ability to love beyond the confines of romance.
影片開始時(shí),De Souza 直視著鏡頭唱道:“You are a good thing, I’ve noticed.” 當(dāng)她吶喊道:“I’m not the only body/I’m not the only one.”
