Did you ever tell 'em how you wound up in that chair?
(“Wound up in that chair?” Could refer to an electric chair, as the person being spoken to is inferred to be a criminal.)
Did you sneak in the lair while the king wasn't there?
Did you make 'em all aware sometimes life isn't fair
When you slaughtered the heir though he asked to be spared?
Did you make 'em think that God had something on his mind?
Did he make a design that went outside the lines?
For when danger shows a sign and you leave me to die
I'll rehearse all my lines just one more time
(This is the part where more of the abuse begins to come into play. The Narrator mentions how the Abuser leaves the narrator left to rot whenever anything frustrates them, and the narrator is just left repeating the same things in their head to justify the abuse.)

(This first part of the bridge is expressing the confusion involved when being in an abusive relationship. You often ask yourself if it’s even as bad as you think it is or if you are making it up in your head.)
I wasn't involved
(Could've been a knife.)
It could've been anyone
(This second part of the bridge is the narrator justifying the abuser’s actions. ‘Could’ve been a knife’ is referencing how it could’ve been physical, or a if it was physical it could’ve been worse. While ‘It could’ve been anyone’ is referencing how anyone would’ve snapped on the narrator; and that it couldn’t possibly be the abuser’s fault.)

(At this point is when the narrator blames themself for being ‘hypnotised’ by ‘Mr. Universe’, most likely referring to the abusers attractive looks, higher status, or overwhelming charm that would lead the narrator into being ‘hypnotised’.)
Did you still love him when he blew that lid?
Well rumor has it that the concubine did!
(Concubine means, (in polygamous societies), a woman who lives with a man but has lower status than his wife or wives, or a mistress.)

How can disaster seem so divine?
Why am I waiting on bad fortune?
(The narrator questions why they continue to talk to the abuser, as they have nothing but bad for the narrator. The narrator continuously comes back to the abuser, and even anticipates seeing them as if ‘waiting on bad fortune.’)
Burnt to the ground but everything's fine
'Cause every mistake you make is mine
(The narrator acknowledges that everything is terrible, but brushes it off, and blames it all on themself.)
[Verse 2]
(If you wear headphones while listening to this section, the lines alternate between being on the left speaker and the right one. This suggests a dialogue between two characters. The “institution” line in this verse could relate to the “criminal” slant in the first line, or possibly the protagonist is “not right in the head”. You decide.)
Swallow your fears now, here we go
(The narrator, at this point, finally decides to call for help being desperate for some way out. They swallow their fears though, knowing that if the abuser finds out it’d end badly for them.)

(The narrator seemingly hasn’t talked to anyone else in a rather long time, calls up a friend or something similar who hasn’t spoken to them in so long they can’t remember who they are.)
I've got a man that's not quite right in the head
Are you sure you didn't mean to call the cops instead?
(The narrator confesses to the other person that they are in an abusive situation. The other person confused just wonders why the narrator is calling up them and not the police, and proceed to report it.)
Doctor don't lock him in an institution!
If you want home care there's only one solution:
Teach your man life isn't fair
(At this point, the narrator’s abuse begins to show, and they become worried for the Abuser as the doctor is going to lock him in a mental institution for his state of mind. The doctor mentions to the narrator that there’s only one solution to this, which is to get the abuser to stop and realize not everyone has to cave in to his every will.)
Everybody knows but no one cares
(At this point, everybody knows that the narrator was in an abusive relationship but no one takes the time to care about the narrator or stop the cycle of abuse. This, makes the narrator still feel entitled to come crawling back to the abuser, as it’s not like anyone cares.)

(The narrator questions why they continue to talk to the abuser, as they have nothing but bad for the narrator. The narrator continuously comes back to the abuser, and even anticipates seeing them as if ‘waiting on bad fortune.’)

(The narrator thinks about what the abuser has done, the promises that they’ve broken, and the lengths they have gone to make sure that anyone but them is at stake. The narrator mocks themself for believing in everything, and how big of a surprise it is that this snake is a fake, possibly referring to the snake as the abuser.)
Do you think about the consequences that you'll leave
When you con and deceive and the people believe
Sure that they're the ones to grieve over what you achieve
All the plans you conceive and the plots that you weave
(The narrator wonders if the abuser ever has to face consequences to anything that they’ve done or if they just get away with it all. They wonder if they’re just another sheep that got deceived in the abusers master plan.)
