妻子的不辭而別，完全出乎周興和的意料。

可，當(dāng)周興和想再支付征地的后期款項時，發(fā)現(xiàn)公司僅有的55萬現(xiàn)金，已全部被妻子拿走，使他根本無法再支付征地款；再問，公司的小車也被她和他的親戚開走；再細(xì)看家里，妻子已把她貴重的東西也悉數(shù)拿走。這時，周興和才感覺到了事態(tài)嚴(yán)重——看來，妻子不但氣急而走，而且可能一去就不想再回來了！

打她的手機，手機連續(xù)1個多月關(guān)機；到處找人，找遍了她能夠去的地方，可根本尋不見她的蹤影；他多次到岳父母家去問小申下落，岳父母不但不叫女兒與他見面，反而向周興和要人：“我女兒嫁給你，你就要對她負(fù)責(zé)！我們沒來找你要人，你卻找上門來了！告訴你，她有個三長兩短，我們就跟你沒完！”

周興和不想和他們爭辯，更不想和他們吵架，他只好悻悻地選擇離開。

周興和冷靜下來后，也在不停地反省自己：為什么在和妻子度過最艱難的時期后，妻子反而會和自己離心離德呢？為什么經(jīng)濟條件稍稍好轉(zhuǎn)，家庭反而會造成目前這種瀕臨破裂的狀況呢？這些日子來，自己是不是真有大男子主義思想，對家里的事管得不多，對妻子的理解關(guān)心不夠，和妻子在思想感情上交流溝通太少？在教育她兒子的方式方法上，是不是簡單嚴(yán)厲了些？在經(jīng)濟問題上，是否對兩人的子女真有偏心的地方？……

“你別看老周在其它方面能干，在生活上其實是個弱智?！睍r隔10多年，筆者在采訪小申時，她對周興和的評價很客觀，“他的心思，全都在了他的事業(yè)上；他的精力，也全都用在了他發(fā)明創(chuàng)造里，確實可以說是廢寢忘食；就連叫他回家吃飯，有時也要用騙的方式叫他回家；回到家，連味精和鹽都不一定分得清——要說我和他的矛盾，不在我們的感情上，而主要還是在生活中?！?/p>

天已經(jīng)完全黑了。周興和心里許許多多的疑問，像一團亂麻，理不出個頭緒。最后他把所有的矛盾和怨恨集中在一個字上：錢！對這個問題，古人曾有過精辟的總結(jié)，人為財死，鳥為食亡！面對錢財，世上有幾個人能抱著淡定豁達的態(tài)度啊！在這個淡薄人情而青睞功利的社會里，周興和曾反復(fù)詰問自己：錢這個東西，它到底是福星還是災(zāi)禍，是天使還是魔鬼？！

In this utilitarian society, Zhou Xinghe had repeatedly asked himself: the money is a blessing or a disaster, is an angel or a devil?!

夜色蒙蒙，冷風(fēng)蕭瑟。怎么辦呢？此時，周興和感到莫大的委屈、孤獨和寂寞。不知怎么的，這個連坐牢都不曾眨眼的漢子，也禁不住眼里潮濕，繼而感到自己眼角邊有些冰涼起來。

The night was cloudy and the wind was cold. What to do? At this time, Zhou Xinghe felt great grievance, desolateness and loneliness. Somehow, the man, who had not even frowned in prison, could not help but wetting his eyes, and then felt a little cold around them.

“是的，我離過幾次婚，在旁人看來，我對待婚姻的態(tài)度是不是有些不嚴(yán)肅。其實，這對我是極大的誤解。我是從苦難中走過來的，人生中得到的每一樣?xùn)|西都很不容易，所以對所得到的東西是非常珍惜的。我非常珍惜自己的家庭，珍惜夫妻之間的感情?！敝芘d和表情凝重地對筆者講道，“每當(dāng)婚姻出現(xiàn)危機時，我都感到莫大的痛苦，甚至傷心，都想竭力挽救；每離一次婚，我都會找個沒有人的地方，傷心大哭一場……我常常在問，難道，這就是我的命？”

經(jīng)過無數(shù)個夜晚的反省和考慮，周興和決定還是要竭力去挽回他與小申這段感情，挽回自己這來之不易的婚姻。

After countless nights of self-questioning and consideration, Zhou Xinghe decided to try his best to save his relationship with Shen, and save their hard-won marriage.

不知什么時候，他感到自己實在太餓了，爬了起來，燒了一壺水，泡了一包方便面。他一邊吃，一邊拿定了主意：事到如今，已顧不得什么臉面了，天一亮，就到報社去登個“尋人啟事”，妻子看見報紙，總不能再不露面了吧？

當(dāng)天夜里，周興和做了個夢。他夢見很久很久以前，有兩個很窮很窮的兄弟，善良的鳳凰神同情他們的境遇，把兩兄弟馱到了太陽山上，那里有數(shù)不清的金銀財寶。老二只在那里拿了一塊金子，他想只要有這塊金子，我一輩子就餓不死了；而老大卻眼花繚亂心花怒放了，他裝了幾口袋的金銀財寶，連背也背不動了。鳳凰幾次催促他說：太陽快要回來了，你趕快走吧！可老大總是不走，還在不停地往口袋里裝著金子。最后，太陽回來了，老大被太陽燒死了，連一塊金子也沒得到……

That night, Zhou Xinghe had a dream. He dreamed that long, long ago, there were two brothers who were very poor. The good Phoenix God sympathized with their situation and carried them to the Sun Mountain, where there were countless treasures of gold and silver. The younger brother just took one piece of gold, which he thought was enough to keep him alive; the older brother, however, was so dazzled and elated that he filled several sacks of gold and silver that he could not even carry at all. The Phoenix urged him several times and said: The Sun is coming back, and you should go now! But the older brother did not go away, and kept filling his sacks with gold. At last, the Sun came back, and the older brother was burnt to death, and did not get a single piece of gold...

周興和醒來，再也睡不著了。夢中的情景不斷在他腦海里閃現(xiàn)。最后他終于明白過來，這哪里是在做夢，而是他小時候?qū)W過的一篇課文呀！莫名其妙，今天怎么會跑到自己夢境中來了呢？

Zhou Xinghe woke up and could not sleep again. Scenes in the dream kept running through his mind. At last, he came to realize that it was not a dream but a text he had learned when he was a child. He didn't know why it came to his dream today.

1999年4月9日，《四川日報》上登出了一則“尋人啟事”，要尋的人就是周興和的妻子——小申。

On April 9, 1999, a notice for "missing person" appeared in the Sichuan Daily, asking for Zhou Xinghe's wife, Shen.

“怎么，周興和的妻子失蹤了？”認(rèn)識周興和的人看見報紙，都驚訝地相互打聽，“他怎么不到公安機關(guān)去報案哪？”

周興和只好搖搖頭，苦笑了一下，謝絕了朋友們的好心，他什么都沒說——這樣的事，三言兩語是能說得清的么！
