Resolved: Patent is more beneficial than harmful-Pro

Resolved: patent is more beneficial than harmful. We stand on the pro side in this debate. First, I will explain the key times in the resolution. a patent is, as defined by the international renewable energy agency, the right to exclude others from using an invention for a limited amount of time people who hold Patents have the exclusive right to sell the product being patented for a set duration of time. They can take advantage of all the benefits that come along with this, such as making more money.
on balance means that neither side will exclusively have benefits or hams, and that to win this debate, we must show that the benefits outweigh the harms. now I will talk about our specific contentions. I have three contentions to support my case.
Contention I. Patents encourage innovation
upcounsel.com explains that the primary benefits for inventors is the temporary monopoly patents give them. In other words, when someone is granted exclusive benefits for their invention, they will have more incentive to make technological and procedural advances. Companies can expect a 50% average increase in earnings from their technologies by holding patents. People are 13% less likely to pursue a design if the patent is not guaranteed. According to Zorina Khan of Boudoin College, in the book The Democratization of Invention: Patents and Copyrights in American Economic Development observed that ordinary people are stimulated by higher perceived returns or demand-side incentives to inventive activities. This argument proves that patents encourage innovation and help inventors and people who use/sell products alike.
Contention II. Patent is beneficial to economy
How?did the world’s wealthiest nations grow rich? The answer according to Professor Stephen Haber of Stanford University, is very simple: They had well-developed systems of private property.
As the ALRC website states, possessing a patent may help a company to grow by capitalizing on the market potential of its invention. Small companies may use patents to attract financial banking. In addition, Patent stimulates the growth of national industry, because local companies that have Patents can attract overseas investment and?develop products for export. Profits generated by Patent exploitation can be invested in further research and development, which may stimulate commercial and industrial growth. Some might argue that if we hold patents, the patent owner can easily make high prices and cause problems. Well, According to the ocpatentlawyer.com website, A patent allows an inventor to sell a product at a higher price if there is significant market demand.? It does not help increase market demand for the product. For this reason, the benefit of a patent is only useful to inventors with products for which there is large market demand.
Contention III. Patent protects intellectual property.
Many people also think that it is not ethical for the inventor to work a lot and then for others to get a large amount of their benefits. This piece of evidence is also from ocpatentlawyer.com: patent protects inventor rights because a patent directs a barrier to entry so that others cannot compete against the inventor. Barclay international office also states that when you share your preliminary research on invention with others in journals or in face-to-face conversations is called public disclosure. When you share this idea with the public you weaken the statue the university or industry partners should receive patent right on this idea. However, the United States government allows a 12 month grace period after public disclosure. If during this time the potential assignee files a patent request with a United States patent and trademark office,You will still have international rights to protect your work. This proves that by filing a patent, we can protect the original inventors.
In conclusion, a vote for my side is a vote for a world where patent makes people innovate, helps the economy grow, and helps protect intellectual property. My partner and I strongly assist the resolution ‘On balance, patent is more beneficial than harmful'.
