霍華德·菲利普·洛夫克拉夫特(Howard Phillips Lovecraft，1890-1937)，美國恐怖、科幻與奇幻小說作家，尤以其怪奇小說著稱。代表作《克蘇魯?shù)暮魡尽贰?/p>

瑪麗·雪萊

瑪麗·雪萊(Mary Shelley，1797-1851)，英國著名小說家，因其1818年創(chuàng)作了文學(xué)史上第一部科幻小說《弗蘭肯斯坦》（或譯《科學(xué)怪人》），而被譽為科幻小說之母。

雖說世事滄桑多變，終不及人類的情感那么反復(fù)無常。我披星戴月干了近兩年，一心一意想使這副無生命的軀殼獲得生機，為此，我捐棄了休息和健康。我食不甘味，枕不安眠，眼巴巴地盼著愿望的實現(xiàn)，等到大功告成了，美麗的夢幻卻煙消云散，化成一股令人窒息的恐懼和厭惡，充塞在我心頭。我親手造出的那具生靈，模樣實在叫人受不了，我沖出工作室，在臥室里不停地踱來踱去，起伏的心湖，久久不能平靜。

The different accidents of life are not so changeable as the feelings of human nature. I had worked hard for nearly two years, for the sole purpose of infusing life into an inanimate body.
