I hope you all had a?safe and happy Fourth of July filled with parades,cookouts,fireworks and famly reunions.

我祝大家都度過一個安定祥和的七月四日，參加游行，進行野炊，觀看煙火，并與家人團聚。

We celebrated at the White House with a few hundred members of the military and their families.

我們也在白宮進行慶祝，與數(shù)百名軍人和他們的家人一起。

And we took a moment amid the festivities to remember what our Independence Day is all about what happened 237 years ago,and what it meant to the world.

在這一天我們花些時間牢記我們獨立日的意義，237年前發(fā)生了什么，它對這個世界意味著什么。

On July 4th,1776,a small band of patriots declared that we were a people created equal,free to think and worship and live asa we please.

在11776年7月4日，為數(shù)不多的愛國者宣布，我們是生而平等的人，有著自由的思想和信仰，有用自己的方式去生活的權(quán)利。

It was a declaration heard around the world that we were no longer colonists,we were Americans and our destiny would not be determined for us,it would be determined by us.

那是一個對全世界振聾發(fā)聵(喚醒全世界糊涂麻木之人)的宣告，我們不再是殖民地居民，我們是美國人。命運將不會由其他人為我們決定，它將由我們自己決定。

It was a bold and tremendously brave thing to do.

這是一個大膽而且非常需要勇氣來完成的事情。

It was also nearly unthinkable.

這也是近乎不可想象的。

At that time,kings and princes and emperors ruled the world.

在那時，國王、王子和皇帝統(tǒng)治著世界。

But those patriots were certain that a better way was possible.

但那些愛國者確信，更好的生活是可能的。

And to achieve it,to win their freedom,they were willing to lay it all on the line,their lives, their fortunes,their sacred honor.

They fought a revolution.

他們進行了一場革命。

Few would have bet on our side to win.

沒有人相信我們能贏。

But for the first of many times to come,America proved the doubters wrong.

And now,237 years later,the United States-this improbable nation is the greatest in the world,a land of liberty and opportunity,a global defender of peace and freedom,a beacon of hope to people everywhere who cherish those ideals.

現(xiàn)在，237年后，美利堅合眾國，當初不太可能的國家，是世界上最強大的，一片充滿自由和機遇的熱土，全球和平與自由的捍衛(wèi)者，任何地方珍視這些理想的人們心頭希望的燈塔。

Generations of Americans made our country what it is today,farmers and teachers,engineers and laborers,entrepreneurs and elected leaders,people from all walks of life,from all parts of the world,all pulling in the same direction.

一代代的美國人造就了我們今天的國家，農(nóng)民和教師，工程師和工人，企業(yè)家和民選領(lǐng)導人，來自各行各業(yè)，來自世界各地的，都向同一目標前進的人們。

And now we,the people,must make their task our own to live up to the words of that Declaration of Independence and secure liberty and opportunity for our own children and for future generations.

現(xiàn)在，我們?nèi)嗣?，必須完成他們自己的任務，實踐獨立宣言中的誓言，為我們的孩子提供安全自由和機遇，也為我們的后世子孫。

I want to say a special word of thanks to the men and women of our military who have played such a vital role in the story of our nation.

我特別要說些感謝的話，向我們的男女軍人。他們在我們國家的歷史中起著關(guān)鍵作用。

You have defended us at home and abroad,and you have fought on our nation's behalf to make the world a better,safer place.

你們在國外捍衛(wèi)我們的尊嚴，你們代表著我們的國家，為世界的祥和安全戰(zhàn)斗。

People in scattered corners of the world are living in peace today,free to write their own futures because of you.

生活在世界角落的人們今天正生活在和平中，自由地書寫著屬于他們自己的未來。這些都是因為你們。

We are grateful for your service and your sacrifice,especially those still serving in harms's way and your families here at home..

我們非常感激你們的付出，你們的犧牲，特別是那些仍然在險境中服役，不能與國內(nèi)的家人團聚的人們
