I’d like to share a small?anecdote of how I got rid of cockroaches with the help?of my roommate.
?
So basically as a born and bred northerner, I’d always lived in dry and cool climate where I rarely spotted large insects. But then I went to a college located in a hot and humid southern area. On one particular afternoon, I was utterly horrified to see a two-inch roach resting on my lunch. Hearing my scream, my roommate, Ann, who’s a local, gave me an unimpressed sideways glance and said casually “It happens. Just put away your leftovers next time.”?
?
However, as a lazy slob, I failed to follow her advice and those little monsters began to multiply... Some would land on my books, some on Ann’s yoga mat. In the middle of the night, I looked up in horror to find its shiny brown body crawling on the ceiling.
?
So I ended up asking Ann?to?help me?end this cockroach invasion. The next day, on Ann’s instructions, we cleaned and sprayed every nook and cranny of the dorm, putting?bait gel and roach traps where necessary. Ann also gave me an ultimatum -- no more food scraps or I’d be?kicked out-- which I?dutifully?obeyed. Eventually, it took?us about a day to deep clean the room and about two weeks for the roaches to disappear completely.
?
I don’t know about Ann, but I really enjoyed?doing housework with her. Although I was entirely to blame for the whole roach incident, she didn’t guilt-trip me but analyse the situation in a matter-of-fact way. And Unlike me, she’s not afraid to get her hands dirty when eliminating the roaches. Also, she’s just such a natural leader and I was her willing sidekick. So taken together, I’m pleased to say we made a great roach fighting team!
