The latest version of MiRo-E is here! The result of a unique combination of mechanical engineering and software, MiRo-E is a character made up of a huge range of sensors, motors, and software controlled by a revolutionary brain-based control system.

Building on knowledge from our MiRo-B, which is being used by researchers and developers in Universities around the World, we have completely re-engineered MiRo’s mechatronics and software to create an ideal companion that has been evolved for education.

?Moving
MiRo-E has 11 degrees of freedom and an animal-like shape that allow MiRo to move and engage with the world. MiRo’s range of neck and head movements allow incredible connection with users including eye contact.

Feeling
There are numerous touch sensors over MiRo’s head and body, as well as sonar, light and cliff sensors, which allow MiRo to observe and perceive the environment and interact with the humans (and animals) within it.

Thinking
MiRo’s animal-like behaviour has been developed over years of research into biomimetic robot behaviour, and its brain-based controller yields a brilliant organic thought process behind each action/response providing natural interactions.

Observing
MiRo-E is equipped with two cameras that observe the environment in high resolution, helping him to detect and recognize faces, shapes, and objects in real-time.

Speaking
With a charming speech pattern made by simulating mammalian vocal cords, MiRo-E uses a loudspeaker to communicate its emotions to the world.

Hearing
MiRo-E has 2 directional microphones in each ear (which rotate similar to rabbits) so that MiRo can respond to any noise such as speech or clapping in a natural manner. For help localising sound, MiRo’s tail also contains a third microphone!
