What they found through testing is that while the birds are in flight, their wings are pushing the air down which negates the potential weight loss.

pmcall221：Well if they convert a significant amount of bean mass into gas, they might increase the cabin air pressure in their vessel slightly. This increase in pressure might be usable to blow water out of their ballast to raise the ship. Now weather cabin air can be used to blow the ballasts IRL I don't know.
