Hi guys , I Hope someone will want to discover a whole new genre of electronic music that has existed for almost 20 years now . Now that TRIPALOSKI has become famous , lots of people have heard bumping without even knowing it , if you wanna know more keep reading.
First i must say that i'm spanish and i don't speak english perfectly but i try, so i'm sorry if i make any mistakes writing , i will do my best :)
Today i'm gonna explain you guys what Bumping is , and why i am writing about this.
Bumping is a VERY underground and minoritary music genre but it does still have some followers , that are mainly from the very north of Spain , the Basque Country , also south of France ( because of proximity to northern spain ) , in russia they listen to some bumping but i will go deeper after , oh and also in the UK but they listen to Bounce wich is a lighter version of bumping .
So what the hell is Bumping? It is actually considered Hard electronic music, it is normally between 145BPM( very slow) to 165BPM (maximum speed) but you will si it's not reeeally hard like hardcore or gabber, it is , i think a quite easy to listen hard dance music. The name itself is pretty self-explanatory , it consist of a very bouncy and bumping bass ,called a Donk in the UK that's the main feature , the bass can be different from one song to another but it's always "bouncy" and it souds like a pvc/metal pipe or bamboo or something , sometimes it sounds like a steel pan also , it can sound in 1000 different ways and some producers have their own characteristic bass , that's one of the many joys of bumping :)
It all started when the Dutch band Klubbheads created the Bamboo Bass , here you have an example of one of their most famous songs :?
Klubbheads - Kickin' Hard

That song started to become very popular in the north of spain around 1999, specially in the nightclub "JazzBerri" ,and because in that time melodic progressive trance was so popular here , The Dj's started mixing it together , so you had trancey cheesy melodies + the pumping bouncy bass and thats when of Bumping as we know it today was born. Very quickly, many producers in the basque country started to produce crazy songs with the Bamboo bass + the melodies in the same song with no mixes ,and they also made the basslines funkyer , like with more groove , you will understand what i mean if you listen to it ;)
JazzBerri was like the temple of Bumping since the beginning of the movement 1999-2005.
Example of pure oldschool bumping from the JazzBerri era :?
JazzBerri Vol.3 - Moving To The Beat (Dj DBC)

Quickly this music genre started becoming more and more popular , and more and more bumping nightclubs started growing everywhere in northern spain , and not only in the basque country anymore , also in other parts of spain .
The sound started becoming more and more bouncy and exaggerated like all music styles and also became less popular in 2012-2016 , and now it's resurrecting a bit but almost all the good producers / musicians that made bumping what it was have disappeared from the scene... so now it's mostly very amateur producers so the quality isn't the same, specially speaking about melodies... now it's only pure donkdonkdonk , some like it and some others no...
well i think i'm writing way to much for today hahaahahaha if this subject really interests someone i will surely explain everything more in deep because what i made is a very very short story , i didn't explain it all well , now i'm gonna put some examples of different subgenres that have born from bumping , and a little explaination of the subgenre.
- POKY : poky was the most famous subgenre in spain , not basque country , like more southern , it's usually faster songs , very "basic" sounds ,a lot of beeps and screechy sounds , with only simple and raw basslines , with usually a quite high pitched donk and pitched vocals too , quite cheesy hahahahah it's meant to be mixed with other songs , like with vocal trance songs ( Milk Inc etc...)
Example : Dj Mega & dj Fiset - Poky Powa 2011
https://m.soundcloud.com/djmega-2/dj-mega-dj-fiset-feat-ainara
-HARD BASS : This is the subgenre that came from mother russia , it has the most evil , heavy and dark sounding basslines , can be very slow to accentuate the heavyness or also fast sometimes , it barely contains melodies , it's usually just pure bass . The example is one of the most representative songs of this music style , but it has to be noted that it's from 2003 so it's quite old and hard bass has changed a lot, but i don't want to overwhelm you guys with 10 examples of each genre ^_^
Example : Dj Snat -- Choose Your Power
【Dj Snat - Choose Your Power (Gopnik McBlyat Remix)-嗶哩嗶哩】 https://b23.tv/x3TA9Pf
- CACEROLA : very unpopular style but i like it a lot , this genre died very fast , it was mostly in 2006-2008 and just 4-5 Producers knews how to do it properly , because believe it or not it takes some serious skill to get that sound. The name "Cacerola" means like a big pan , because of its metallic sound like hitting a pan , here you have an example but this style is difficult to show with just 1 example .
Example : DJ NKO - I've Got The Love
https://m.youtube.com/watch?t=131&v=407YonEvcsQ&feature=youtu.be
REBOTE : Rebote means "Rebound" in spanish , so self explanatory also hahahaa , The absolute crazyest form of bumping , also the newest and most popular nowadays , it's mostly pure donkage coming from everywhere ,but still sounding very groovy , funky and nice , like who does the crazyest tricks with that bass . I think i've choosed a good example.
Example : MK Project - Shelter From The Storm
https://m.soundcloud.com/mkproject1/mk-project-shelter-from-the-storm-promo
these are the main subgenres for the moment :D
i hope you guys have enjoyed this music genre and will listen to more in the future , but i know it's a pretty cheesy and strange kind of music so it may be misunderstood ...
If you have any questions Don't hesitate!!! or if you want some more of this music i have like 1TB of it and i can upload everything you want!
Have a nice day guys!! Keep bumpin' hahaahah
