As it's reaching 150K subs? -seriously come on-? I decided to write the story of Ability to Read, or shortly known as ATR in the community.

考慮到閱讀理解Mod的訂閱量已經(jīng)接近十五萬（是認(rèn)真的嗎），我決定把閱讀理解mod（簡稱ATR）的幕后故事寫出來，放到工坊里。

Everything begins with the release of a nuclear power plant complex, made by Ronyx and Jerenable, back in April 2017:

這一切起源于Ronyx和Jerenable在2017年4月發(fā)布的一個大型核電站資產(chǎn)。

Since it's an asset that has multiple subbuildings to be 'complete', and vanilla subbuilding function didn't exist that time, it requred Sub Buildings Mod in order to be loaded properly into the game.

由于這整個資產(chǎn)都由眾多子建筑“組成”，而當(dāng)時游戲不自帶加入子建筑的功能，因此為了使這套資產(chǎn)在游戲中正常加載，需要子建筑mod。

All assets; from reactors to power units, vents, everything was a subbuilding. The main building was.. a decal of a cookie monster that was the profile picture of its co-creator, Jerenable.

從反應(yīng)堆到發(fā)電機(jī)房乃至通風(fēng)管，這套資產(chǎn)完完全全由子建筑構(gòu)成。作為“占位主體”的……是一張?zhí)痫灩值馁N圖，當(dāng)時被資產(chǎn)的其中一位作者Jerenable作頭像用。

Building complex was released and comments poured in: "Why do i see a cookie monster?" It was mainly because people did not sub Sub Buildings mod that was given as required item on the right side of the screen. It was replied multiple times that they needed to sub required item, otherwise they wont see the building as it was made, but just the decal as it was the main building. Any other pieces of the complex would show as independent items in the game UI.

資產(chǎn)發(fā)布了，評論傾盆大雨：“為毛就一個甜餅怪？”這主要是因為人們就是不訂閱那個已經(jīng)在頁面右邊寫的清清楚楚的、被列為必需的子建筑mod。我們反復(fù)回答了幾次，就是你必需訂閱這個mod，不然就只能看見一個占位的貼圖，建筑的組成子建筑會在UI里列為獨立的部分。

However this didn't stop anyone, same question continued to be asked multiple times, up to a degree Ronyx decided to change the description of the asset, and add large chunks of text that replies the very same question.

但這阻止不了人們秀智商，同樣的問題一遍又一遍，搞得Ronyx索性修改了簡介，用一段巨大的文字專門解釋這個聽膩了的問題。

By that time it was around September and we started to joke about a mod "that gives people ability to read".

這時已經(jīng)是9月了。我們開始開玩笑：應(yīng)該做一個“讓人能閱讀理解的mod”

As I wasn't a modder myself, obviously making a mod was out of question. So I decided to make 1cm^3 cube that had 10K entertainment bonus in game as an asset.

我自己不是modder，顯然做個mod不太可行。于是我就整了一個1立方厘米的方塊，設(shè)定它的娛樂加成為一萬，當(dāng)做資產(chǎn)導(dǎo)入游戲。

And meme was born.

無中生梗。

When it was published none of us thought it would get this many subs. The assumption was, since it is on the required items in the collections, people would simply NOT sub everything at once, in order not to subscribe useless stuff, like ATR, and individually check each required items. This would allow people to 'read' what each item does and subscribe responsibly, instead of subscribing everything on one go, without reading anything about dependency.

最初發(fā)布時我們以為不會有幾個人訂閱。我們想的是：既然是必需物品，人們訂閱時就不會無腦地點個全部訂閱，而是一個個查看關(guān)聯(lián)項目，以免訂個像ATR這樣的無用腦殘貨。這么一來，人們就會仔細(xì)閱讀每個必需物品的用途并對應(yīng)訂閱，而不是光按下繼續(xù)就啥也不管。

Thus, aside being a 'meme' of its own, ATR would also work as a filter, that would prevent people from fast subscribing.

因而，除了作為一個梗而存在，ATR也作為減速帶，防止人們過快地訂閱物品。

That theory was proven wrong weeks later, when we realize it already gathered thousands of subs.

但僅僅一周我們的臉就腫了，訂閱量已然上千。

Unsure about what people do with their subscriptions, we decided to leave ATR as it is. After 3 years it currently has 143K subscribes.. somehow.

由于實在搞不清人們訂閱時的邏輯，我們索性把ATR晾在一邊。3年后的現(xiàn)在，它有足足十四萬三千訂閱……什么鬼。

In terms of metrics, ATR is gathering about 600subs a day. Only 200 of them are page visits, which means about 400 people, per day, do not read dependencies of the assets they subscribe, and just sub it without knowing what it is.

從統(tǒng)計的角度分析，ATR每天會新增約600個訂閱。只有約200人是看過了簡介頁面的，也就是說：每一天，都有400個蠢貨，從來不管必需物品是個啥，就傻憨憨地點了訂閱。

This is obviously a risky method, as not every mod on workshop -or asset- are up-to-date, subscribing assets not knowing what they do is a good way to wreck your game.

這種行為顯然是非常危險的，因為工坊上不是每個mod或者資產(chǎn)都能被永久更新。直接訂閱一個你根本不知道干啥的資產(chǎn)可以輕松幫你刪檔。

If you end up here, now you know what ATR is or why it is made. It was a partly joke, partly filter asset that was hoped to refrain people from subscribing everything at once.

如果你能堅持讀到現(xiàn)在，你已經(jīng)知道了閱讀理解mod是啥，它為何被做出來。它本質(zhì)就是個玩笑，本意是希望人們克制自己立刻訂閱的沖動。
