As a Brit who spends a decent amount of time online, especially during these strange times, it seems more and more frequent to encounter Americans who have fairly negative views on Britain or her people, so my question to you Americans is do you share the same disdain towards your British cousins? If so, please inform me why you think like that, and if you do not, please divulge what your opinion of British people is.

I like to think the kind of people who reply to light hearted jokes with "US = school shootings" are a loud minority, but I can't say that for certain.

4、I always had a generally positive view of the British, maybe a little stuck up sometimes, but generally alright.

Now that I've lived in Germany for a while, I realize that Germans, and other mainland Europeans, view you rather negatively because of bad experiences with tourists. Basically just a bunch of loud, rowdy, drunk tourists all over the place...so basically how a lot of people view Americans. Which is odd cause I think the American stereotype of British people is that they're very proper or formal, and here it's they they're obnoxious.
(回復(fù)1)Europeans generally see what we’re actually like because a lot of Brits go on holiday to places in Spain like Benidorm, Ibiza, Malaga, Marbella etc. Same can be said for Italians, Croats, Greeks and so on. We haven’t got a great reputation with the Southern Europeans for our lads holiday antics. A lot of Germans go on holiday to the same places as we do but they’re much calmer and tend to be families, whereas Brits party a lot abroad. That might be why Germans think we’re cunts and also there’s sort of a rivalry between us both stemming from the Second World War and that transcends into sport (mainly football). It’s nothing serious though; majority of Brits and Germans have a lot of respect for each other as we’re similar countries and our languages are Germanic

5、People on the internet are largely angry and dumb. Don't take internet opinions as reality. Furthermore, people on reddit skew extremely young.

Most Americans are solidly behind the British and would take them above any other European people.

6、I personally like the British most out of the entire commonwealth because Britain actually knows what a military alliance is.

7、Brits range anywhere from pleasant people with nice accents and a good sense of humor to arrogant and hostile snobs with pleasant accents. I’ve worked with Brits for several years and unfortunately it skews towards the latter.

Frankly many Americans have become quite aware of the contempt Brits have for us and while they have no animosity towards Brits individually as a whole there is some wariness.

8、I’ve always thought that Americans and British people shared an almost unspoken bond. Like for example, when I was in Latin America, there were tons of Europeans, Australians, and New Zealanders but few Americans. While interacting with all of them, I noticed they were almost all relatively stand-offish when it came to me and the couple other Americans. That is, except for the Brits, We spent a whole lot of time fucking around and joking with the British dudes there and our two groups kinda stuck together the whole time. Also, when I was in the Military, cross-training with the British was truly a sight to behold. I mean CONSTANT banter back and forth, all good natured. The British would joke about us being fat cheeseburger munchers and firing guns up into the air at all times, and we would make fun of them for tea & crumpet breaks and being posh British sissies. It was ruthless, but hilarious and a lot of fun. We did a lot of training with a bunch of different nations, including Australia, Italy, and France. But it was nothing like training with the Brits.

9、Me to a Brit here: Nice accent. You need help with anything?
Me to Brit asshat online: you don't know anything about the culture, laws, or nuances your trying to talk about. Duck off limey bastard.

10、I lived in England during the rise of Tony Blair and left to live in the United States in the late-90s. And, having lived in Canada, Britain and the US my take is this: Brits, like the French, feel social license to be abjectly critical of the United States (veracity not important) but any time an American takes offense, or turns it around on a Brit, they "can't take a joke" or are being "hurtful."

The English have a collective problem with self-esteem. It feels like the only way Brits can feel good about being British is if they're tearing-down another Anglosphere country.

11、Generally good, but varies a lot.

Brits did not have a great reputation in Miami, because of the drinking. West Coast of Florida gets lots of older Brits, who fit in very well.
I'd say Brits=good, chavs=bad.

13、Thanks for not intervening in the American Civil War and deciding to use India and Egypt for cotton instead.
also, sorry to India and Egypt.

14、I have a generally positive view of British people. I've met some really nice ones. My sister lives in England and I have yet to visit her there. Some day I'll meet my British BIL.

My only complain is what seems like a common practice of British people taking subtle jabs at Americans while talking to us. I just want you guys to know, it's not that we don't understand your joke, it's that we are trying to be polite and ignore it.

15、Having spent a lot of time time around the British I would characterize a lot of brits as “witty but socially awkward”. I’ve met so many fantastic brits in Scotland, the midlands, and the north but the south of England might possibly be the greatest concentration of assholes in the world (still a lot of great people there just have at least one bad experience every time I’m there).

I think the animosity comes from the fact that the British seem to mock other countries more than anyone else while also being hyper sensitive to jokes themselves. Any joke about tea or rain on the internet is often answered with jokes about school shootings in America and then you find out it was an Italian or Australian that made the original joke. Internet brits seem to blindly lash out at the US a lot like internet Canadians.

16、I think we love the Brits, but find them confusing quite often.

17、Americans like brits but a lot of times they dislike “smug Europeans”.

19、As a Brit I’ve always found that American’s don’t always pick up on sarcasm. Not a criticism but I never really realised how sarcastic we are until I started hanging around with Americans.
And in my experience, American girls like British guys a lot!
