“建立Hiccup形象需要做好平衡。既要讓觀眾能喜歡他,又得讓他爸對他失望?!睂а軨.S.解釋道?!白鳛橐粋€青少年,Hiccup想成為一個真正的維京人,但是他逐漸意識到,他的智商和體能狀態(tài)注定了他不是這塊料。因此,他感覺他還沒得到他的父親的認可與尊重?!睂а軩.D.補充道。

'Developing Hiccup was a balancing act . He had to be appealing , but he also had to be enough of an individual to frustrate his father at the same time , ' explains Director Chris Sanders . As a teenager Hiccup still wants to be a true Viking but he has come to realize his intellect and physical stature are not typical Viking material . As such , ' he feels he hasn't gotten his father's approval and respect , ' notes Director Dean DeBlois.
Hiccup grew up a lot over the course of this production , both in social maturity and physical design. In the earliest days of development , his character was much younger , pegged in the range of six or seven years of age and more aligned with the character in the original book . His final build and look is not as stylized as the other young characters
in the film, which was a means to help the audience connect with him.
'It was important to make Hiccup a normal kid who would not stand out in our modern world-he's a smart , charming , and mild-mannered guy . It's when he's placed in the Viking World occupied by outrageous characters that he doesn't quite fit in , and the audience can empathize with this awkwardness , ' explains Head of Character Animation Simon Otto.
Our biggest challenge was taking the young Hiccup that Cressida Cowell had envisioned and turning him into a teenager. That he would maintain the appeal and charm Cowell had given him was important to the story .

This classic archetypal protagonist tends to go either the arrogant way : ' You are all wrong and you 'll see ,' or the self-deprecating one : ' I am lame , I wish I could be like all of you .' We went with the letter ; we wanted a more empathetic charactor , a humble protagonist that learns the value of himself and is accepted for who he is .
