OVERVIEW?
Fasani Corp. is the company behind CALE.es website and also the maintainer of CalEPD and Touch components that work with most of Good-Display SPI epapers.?
Founded in 2020, on a cold German winter, CALE is service to deliver great quality Bitmaps or JPGs to your displays. That can connect to APIs like Google Calendar, Weather apps, and also internal Galleries that are hosted in our Amazon Web Servers in Frankturt am Main, Germany.?
GOALS?
1. To facilitate an easy integration with a WiFi or BLE Firmware to display an image in epaper?
2. To let the user control the image rendering, with Bit-Depth quality (1, 4, 8 or 24 bits), but also with professional filters such as Dithering, Brightness and JPG quality setting?
3. Have a Firmware that is ready to be implemented as soon as you create your first CALE screen?
4. To make videos and help material so the user can feel that everything is at hand. And also to let them ask questions and put issues on the component Repositories. Example: I do not have a class for display Model XXX.?
5. To have a specific way that uses the Espressif Rainmaker application, so you can provide WiFi credentials, using a professional phone APP. And that way you can make a display case for a client and he can set it up with a QR code that is either sent in a presentation paper or that is printed directly on the epaper display.?
SPECIFICATIONS?
CALE uses all open-source software and is 100% transparent having their public website on Github: https://github.com/martinberlin/cale-integrationsSOME STATISTICS CALE has 180 active users Because we want to be protective with User personal data, accounts that are not used, after 6 months not any login to the site are deleted. Otherwise we would be spamming non-active users with our newsletter.?
It had about 250 Users registered but because of this rule, only active users remain on board. The users mostly once they register, just go to the Login page and do not visit the other pages of the site. Ultimately our mission is to make a better user experience and landing pages to get their attention in order to register.
IN THE BACKEND In the backend once registered you can do 3 important things:?
1. Create a Display where you select one of the options shown in the models page (Resolution, size, etc) and an easy template (Single, 2 columns)?
2. Create some Content pieces, like for example an image Gallery, or some HTML document like Title, Description.?
3. Compose a screen using these 2 last points, adding Content pieces in your template, and finally Rendering this screen.Content pieces are exactly that: Parts of content, like a text or an image, that can be combined and added into a Screen. This Screen is later rendered for you, letting you copy an URL, that you can use in your WiFi Firmware.
BACKEND: Rendering your Image After doing those simple steps, to create a virtual display, and to create some content (Points 1 & 2 of the last page) then you can simply Render this screen. Which brings you to the following settings. As you can see this is adding a Crypto API, that lets you render a small Chart, where you can select Ascending and Descending color (RED). And it lets you Preview it and customize some settings. Like for example if you would like to render a photo, but you have only BLACK and RED epaper, well then the best would be to use Dithering. That will make point to point pixels that are more concentrated when there is more color and less when there is not. Making it possible to render a picture much nicer than only having big parts of Black and Red color.
IMAGE: Examples Crypto image rendered in the epaper using ESP32-C3 controller (Downloaded from WiFI)Dithered image: checks (small 1x1 squares) Landscape rendered for 800x480 display using 3x3 dithered pixels.NFT Art rendered in a gdew0583z83 648x480 GOOD-DISPLAY epaper IMAGE: More complex examples The image download could of course be used as a background. And over that you can draw perfect shapes using CalEPD and Adafruit GFX, anything like geometrical shapes (Circles, Triangles, Lines, etc) but also FONTS (Any TrueType font you desire) In the following examples you can see a Real-Time-Clock connected to Espressif microcontroller, rendering the time and temperature over a downloaded image.
Clock made as a demo for a Pet-store, Barcelona Random image, downloaded from free service picsum.photos (Random city images)Endless possibilities: Just combine this with any display, sensors, etc Possibilities are only limited by your imagination. You can combine downloaded images with any information on top. You can build from Price labels, to big office labels (CEO: Name), but also display real-time information from APIs or Sensors installed anywhere. That communicates with your device per WiFi or other means such as Bluetooth or LoRa (Low range communication that can go much wider than WiFi) and uses all this IOT power to drive displays in a smart way. It can be used for the office but also as a decoration at home, or if you think further, for a smart city project or a store that wants to impress their visitors with displays that change every 5 minutes showing offers or sensor information.
GYM project CLB: Fight club Barcelona Shows CO2 level, Temperature and Humidity last 2 required by law in many stores using a 9.7” 1200x825 parallel display. At the moment does not use any background since we want to keep it low consumption and clear to display this required information.?
As you can see, not only WiFi, but also just a Real-Time-Clock or sensors can be used to show live information. And all this displays and related technology to achieve this, create the cases, the Hardware and example Firmware we can also publish in CALE.es Let’s build together the future of epaper displays Firmware technology
