POLAR MUSEUM

The Polar Museum forms a key part of the Scott Polar Research Institute and 2020 marks one century since the museum opened to the public. It’s free to visit and packed with fascinating resources including explorers’ diaries, scientific equipment, Inuit art and insights into some of the most ambitious expeditions in the last century. Come and find out about exploration, science and survival at the extreme ends of the earth. The museum has over 5,000 objects in its care, many of which can be seen via the?online catalogues.
Amongst the museum’s treasures are a folding camera used by Robert Falcon Scott on the British Antarctic Expedition 1910-1913 (Terra Nova) and a chronometer used by Ernest Shackleton on his Endurance expedition 1914-1916.
