我覺得GRE語法結(jié)構比較重要的就是這幾個：倒裝、省略、插入語和代詞倒裝省略

倒裝省略

* That sex ratio will be favored which maximizes the number of?descendants an individual will have and hence the number?of?gene copies transmitted.

本句有兩個重要的語法結(jié)構（倒裝和省略）

倒裝是定語從句which maximizes the number of descendants本來要跟在sex ratio后面，放在了will be favored后面。省略有兩個，一個是descendants （that） an individual will have，這個是作賓語，that省略的情況，比較簡單；另一個是省略了maximizes, hence (maximizes) the number of gene copies transmitted,yysy,這個確實有一定難度，且做記錄。

* Virginia?Woolf's provocative statement about her?intentions in?writing?Mrs. Dalloway?has regularly?been ignored?by the critics?since it highlights?an aspect of her literary interests?very different from the traditional?picture of the?"poetic" novelist concerned with?examing states of reverie and vision?and with?following the intricate pathways of individual consciousness.

本句整體就很難，主語有復雜修飾，其實核心就是statement，但是這個statement是Virginia Woolf's provocative statement about her intentions in writing?Mrs. Dalloway，后面接since引導的原因狀語從句，原因狀語從句中主要的難點有兩個，一個難點是大量抽象詞語的使用，比如examing states of reverie（幻想），intricate pathways of?individual consciousness，會讓人產(chǎn)生一種畏難情緒，另一個難點是省略，and with following，with前面省略了concerned。這道題讓我對省略有了更進一步的認識，如果有多個介詞，一定要看跟這個介詞搭配的動詞，或者介詞組搭配是什么。我們在看一個類似的例子。遇到省略就要往前看，看省略的是前面的什么詞。

* Hardy's weakness derived from his apparent inability to control the comings and goings of these divergent impulses and from his unwilliness to?cultivate and sustain the energetic and risky ones.

插句題外話，我覺得GRE閱讀長難句和我們高中學習的長難句相比，難度提升的方面主要體現(xiàn)在長度更長，而在高中不常見的倒裝、省略卻頻頻出現(xiàn)在GRE閱讀中。再來看另一個省略。

* As my own?studies have advanced, I have been increasingly impressed with the functional similarities between insect and vertebrate societies and less so with the?structural?differences that seem, at first glance, to consititute?such an immense gulf between them.

?解析

這句話難度倒不是很大，主要是“so”代替了impressed。

插入語

* Although these?molecules allow?radiation at?visible wavelengths, where most of the energy of sunlight is concentrated, to pass through, they absorb some of the longer wavelength, infrared emissions radiated from?the?Earth's surface, radiation that would otherwise be transmitted back into space.

?解析

這里的“allow…to…”中間隔了一個where引導的定語從句作為插入語。相比起倒裝和省略，在理解難度上，我認為插入語實際上是不難的，只是讀起來不是很方便。就像“我和小明去公園”與“我和小明，一個來自浙江的機械工程學生，剛修完商科課程，去公園”，其實想要表達的核心意思就是“我和小明去公園”。

* Islamic?law is a phenomenon so different from all other forms of law--notwithstanding,?of course, a considerable and inevitable number of?coincidences?with one or the other of them as far as subject?matter and positive enactment are concerned--that its?study is indispensable in order to appreciate adequately the full range of possible?legal phenomena.

從notwithstanding開始到are concerned結(jié)束便是一句長長的插入語，實話實說，我第一次讀這句話的時候，就是從頭到尾依次讀下來，看到這個插入語部分真是覺得身處云里霧里，不知所云。因為插入語這句話里有很多代詞，然后當時我不知道notwithstanding的意思，也沒有注意到as far as are concerned的結(jié)構，可謂一臉懵。

面對插入語，插入語的意思暫且不論，其實最正確的方法應該是跳過插入語，因為插入語起到的作用是對句子主要內(nèi)容的細節(jié)補充。

在上句中，主句的意思應該是伊斯蘭法與其它形式的法律不同使得對伊斯蘭法的研究不可或缺從而能夠充分去理解（這里的appreciate應作理解，而非欣賞）各個可能的立法現(xiàn)象。知道了主句意思的好處是我們現(xiàn)在有了上下文語境去推斷插入語可能的意思。雖然大多數(shù)插入語可能與主句表達的意思沒有很大的關系，但不管怎么說，知道主句意思還是尤為重要的。

再看插入語，知道了as far as subject matter and positive enactment are concerned的意思，即從subject matter和positive enactment的角度來看，然后是“a considerable and inevitable number of coincidences with one or the other of them”,怎么說呢，這句話連謂語都沒有，解析是說前面省略了一個“it has”，那么這個them應該是前面提到的不同法律了。不過，如果你知道notwithstanding的意思，大概就能猜到這里要表達一個讓步關系了，即即使可能會存在一些相同的巧合（前面不是提到so different嘛）。

總而言之，面對插入語，先跳過！而針對那個“it has”的問題，書的作者告訴我們，“GRE和GMAT中有很多表達其實不嚴格遵守語法，或者有考生不懂的語法，讀者處心積慮去研究它們，不但沒有實戰(zhàn)意義，而且還令讀者徒增煩惱。”語法只是幫助我們理解的工具，憑借單詞意思，句子關系，我們?nèi)匀荒軌蛟诓磺宄Z法的條件下把句子讀懂。比如下面這一句。

* Apparently most massive?stars manage to lose sufficient material that their masses drop below the critical value of 1.4M before they exhaust their nuclear?fuel.

如果你仔細分析語法，你會發(fā)現(xiàn)那個that特別奇怪，但是并不會妨礙你的理解，解析說，這其實是省略了so的目的狀語從句。

??我們要記住語法只是工具，一個gre閱讀高手能夠做到在考試時忘記語法，那么他這次考試就成功了，因為他在閱讀的過程中已經(jīng)流暢到不用思考語法了!
