Carnival officially starts today in Laguna City: a very anticipated event that gives life and color to winter.
The first official document with which the Carnival of Venice was declared a public holiday dates back to 1296, and it is an edict with which the Senate of the Serene Republic declared Lent a holiday the day before.
Established by the Venetian oligarchies to grant the population a period devoted to fun and celebrations, its dominant feature is camouflage, designed to undo any visible class, sex and religion affiliation.
Today the Venice Carnival is a suggestive popular festival considered unique for history, masks and atmosphere.
Known and appreciated all over the world, the festival draws thousands of tourists every year.
During the two weeks of Carnival in Laguna everyone can attend and take part in the numerous events and the many square demonstrations that invade the city.
As in the past, moreover, even today they organize suggestive private parties and masquerade dances inside the noble city buildings.
In these locations, where time seems like never passed, guests can immerse in ancient splendor and relive the Carnival tradition of a time-old.
Among the moments of the greatest charm of the Venetian carnival, we remember the spectacular Flight of the Angel or Flight of the Colombine: it was renamed this way from the eighteenth century when unfortunately the funnel fell to the ground and was subsequently replaced by a large wooden dove, until from 2001 it became the "Flight of the Angel" obviously tied to tradition (the first to do it was a Turkish acrobat in the middle of 1500): this spectacular event involves a flesh and bone artist, secured to a metal cable, to make the descent on the rope from the top of the Bell tower of San Marco and arrive at Palazzo Ducale afterwards having walked many meters suspended in the gap.
