一、

唉 莊戶人面相老

Ah,village people got old fast!

二、

一出活四個(gè)人去 那叫四臺(tái)

For a four-piece performance,they go out together.

要是再加上吹笙的 吹笛子的 敲鼓的

For an eight-piece performance we add a reed pipe,

還有拉胡胡的 叫八臺(tái)

a bamboo flute,a drum and strings.

Eight instruments?

八臺(tái)那場(chǎng)面可大 氣勢(shì)也高

For a really big occasion,important,high energy.

一般人家過(guò)事 就吹個(gè)四臺(tái)

Most people would just go for the four-piece performance.

八臺(tái)一是難吹 二是價(jià)錢也高

The eigh-piece one is a lot harder to put on,

一般人家請(qǐng)不起

and expensive;most families can't afford it.

哦 那有比八臺(tái)更厲害的嗎

Is there anything more impressive than that?

有啊?

Sure.

What is it?

百鳥朝鳳

“Song of the Phoenix”.

三、

百鳥朝鳳 只在白事上用

"Song of the Phoenix"is a song saved for grave matters,

受用的人要口碑極好才行

played only when very great people have passed away,

一般人是不配享用的

not just for anyone.

四、

記著 嗩吶離口

Remember, it can leave your lips

不離手

but not your hand.

你要好生護(hù)著

Hold onto it tightly.

五、

嗩吶就是這樣

That's how the suona is made.

調(diào)兒越高 個(gè)兒頭就越小

The samller it is, the higher the pitch.

六、

嗩吶一響 百鳥為王

With one breath on the suona, one hundred birds appear for the king.

七、

咱們吹嗩吶的 好歹也是一門匠活

Suona players like us,we are true craftsmen.

既然是匠活 就得有人擔(dān)起責(zé)任?

Since we are so dedicated,we have a responsibility

把這活傳承下去

to keep up the old traditions and to pass them on.

所以 今天我選的這個(gè)人

And so today I'm selecting my successor

不單是看他嗩吶吹得多好

not just because he plays well.

更要緊的 是看他能不能把嗩吶吹到骨頭縫里

Most importantly,because he can move people with his music.

只有把嗩吶吹到骨頭縫的人

Only someone who can play with all his heart, and who moves all who hear him,

他才能拼著命把這活保住傳下去

can truly carry our craft on through the generations.

嗩吶不是吹給別人聽(tīng)的?

You don't play the suona for other people.

是吹給自己聽(tīng)的

You play it for yourself.
