Cyber Security PhD in collaboration with BT Group plc
申請(qǐng)截止日期:2022年3月31日
Funding amount:?Annual bursary (i.e. tax free) of £1750 / month for 4 years; Full tuition fee for home students
City, University of London is offering?a PhD opportunity co-supervised by BT plc.? APPlications are invited from exceptional candidates to pursue research in biometrics, authentication, and IoT.
What is offered:
A doctoral studentship will provide:
Annual bursary (i.e. tax free) of £1750 / month for 4 years.
Full tuition fee for home students. APPlications from international APPlicants are welcome but the annual bursary will be reduced to £1000 / month to cover the fee overseas student difference.
Project:
Continuous authentication (CA) utilises biometrics from device sensors to verify users in real-time. Behavioural biometrics, commonly used in CA, are set to see a yearly market increase of ~25% until 2027. Devices within the Internet of Things (IoT) have only recently become a focus for CA research. IoT is an area that is experiencing immense growth and little CA research has been carried out within this field and research challenges remain.
This will build continuous authentication architectures to address the nuances of IoT devices such as their low power and limited sensing capabilities. The findings would identify how users of different IoT devices could be authenticated to enhance IoT security, privacy and usability.
The candidate will explore CA techniques for the IoT. The candidate will work with their industrial partner to produce academic publications with their academic and industrial supervisors (possibly also contributing to intellectual property). The candidate will be supported by both the academic and industrial supervisor to direct the research.
The successful candidate will be required to carry out an amount of their studentship with the industrial partner, BT plc in Martlesham. This allows for close collaboration with their industrial partners. The project should ideally start by October 2022.
Desirable Traits:
The candidate should have a knowledge of the Internet of Things (IoT), biometrics, and machine learning. Strong programming skills are desirable. Candidate should also ideally have experience in research and formulating research questions.
Eligibility:
The studentships will be awarded on the basis of outstanding academic achievement and the potential to produce cutting edge-research.?? Prospective APPlicants must:
Hold a good honours degree (normally no less than a upper second-class honours degree or an equivalent qualification) in an APPropriate subject.? Exceptionally, if the first degree is in a different subject area, we can consider APPlications from those with a good Master’s Degree in a relevant subject or extensive professional experience in the area of their proposed research;
Be able to demonstrate proficiency in the use of oral and written English;
APPlicants whose mother tongue is not English must meet any one or a combination of the following:
A minimum IELTS average score of 6.5; with a minimum of 6.0 in each of the four components
The award of a Masters’ degree, the teaching of which was in English from an English Speaking country.

職位信息:
PhD Studentship in Self-Learning Robotics
申請(qǐng)截止日期:2022年11月24日
Project Details:
EPSRC project: Self-learning robotics for industrial contact-rich tasks (ATARI): enabling smart learning in automated disassembly
Disassembly is an essential operation in many industrial activities including repair, remanufacturing and recycling. Disassembly tends to be manually carried out - it is labour intensive and usually inefficient.
Disassembly requires high-level dexterity in manipulations and thereby can be more difficult to robotise in comparison to the tasks that have no physical contacts (e.g. computer visual inspection) or simple contacts (e.g. cutting, welding, pick-and-place). Robotic disassembly has the potential to improve the productivity of repair, remanufacturing, recycling, all of which have been recognised as key components of a more circular economy.
The existing procedure and state-of-the-art techniques for disassembly automation usually require a comprehensive analysis of a disassembly task, correct design of sensing and compliance facilities, efficient task plans, and a reliable system integration. It is usually a complex, expensive and time-consuming process to implement a robotic disassembly system.
This project will develop a self-learning mechanism to allow robots to learn disassembly tasks and the respective control strategies autonomously, by combining multidimensional sensing and machine learning techniques. This capability will help build a more plug-and-play disassembly automation system, and reduce the technical difficulties and the implementation costs of disassembly automation.
It is expected the next generation industrial robotics can be adopted in more complex and uncertain tasks such as maintenance, cleaning, repair, remanufacturing and recycling, where many processes are contact-rich. Disassembly is a typical contact-rich task. It is envisaged that self-learning robotic disassembly will provide key understandings and technologies that can be adopted to the automation of other types of contact-rich tasks in the future to encourage a wider adoption of robots in the UK industry.
Additional Funding Information:
A fully funded (stipend+fees) PhD studentship is available for UK home students. Overseas students may APPly, but would need to make up the difference. The project will be held at Dr Yongjing Wang’s group in the School of Engineering at the University of Birmingham.
The candidate will have at least a 2:1 class degree in Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, Electronic Engineering or Robotics or other relevant discipline.
For more information or informal enquiries, please contact Dr Yongjing Wang at?y.wang@bham.ac.uk.

瑞士蘇黎世大學(xué)提供兩個(gè)博士職位
職位信息:
Two PhD positions 70 %
申請(qǐng)截止日期:2022年4月1日
Project Details:
The department of Social and Economic Psychology at the Institute of Psychology invites APPlications for two PhD positions (each 70%).
Our lab investigates human cooperation and how social norms develop and influence decision making in groups. To that end, we combine interactive group experiments, computer simulations, and formal mathematical models. Ultimately, our research is aimed at a better understanding of (1) how groups can overcome social dilemmas (think of the Prisoner's Dilemma or the Public Goods problem), (2) how individuals develop relationships based on trust, reciprocity, and cooperation, (3) how inequality influences group relations, (4) how norms (also anti-social norms, such as dishonesty) develop in groups, and (5) what makes intergroup relations turn hostile or cooperative.
Our research combines perspectives from social psychology, behavioral economics, and theoretical biology. While based on theoretical and abstract models of human decision making, the questions you will address in your PhD also speak to real-world challenges that societies face, such as climate change, political polarization, or the social dilemma that arises with pandemics like COVID-19.
To get an idea of the research questions you would be involved in, please have a look at the following publications:
Gross, J., & B?hm, R. (2020). Voluntary restrictions on self-reliance increase cooperation and mitigate wealth inequality. Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, 117(46), 29202–29211.?https://doi.org/10.1073/pnas.2013744117
Gross, J., & De Dreu, C. K. W. (2019). The rise and fall of cooperation through reputation and group polarization. Nature Communications, 10(1), 776.?https://doi.org/10.1038/s41467-019-08727-8

In your PhD project you will perform and analyze your own lab-experiments using economic games in which participants make decision in groups and/or design and analyze computer simulations to investigate group dynamics. You will also have the opportunity to develop your own research questions in the outlined areas, and take part in shaping our newly established research group, working in a young team of researchers. An exemplary PhD project could be to examine how contact and interdependent relationships between groups can create cooperation that is not only group-based but also beneficial for the common good of all.
We are looking for candidates that are passionate about investigating social group dynamics and the psychology of human cooperation and conflict from a cross-scientific perspective.
Your responsibilities:
Developing and conducting your own PhD project in close collaboration with the chair and your colleagues
Conceptualizing, programming, and conducting own experiments, analyzing data, writing and publishing manuscripts in disciplinary and interdisciplinary international, peer-reviewed journals, and presenting your research on national and international conferences (e.g., the International Conference on Social Dilemmas; ICSD)
Contribution to teaching in the Psychology BA- and MA-program (with your own seminar on the bachelor or master-level on a topic related to social, organizational, and economic Psychology)
Supervision of thematically fitting bachelor and master theses
Your profile:
Master degree in psychology, economics, or related fields (such as, but not limited to, cognitive sciences, computer science, mathematics)
Passion for understanding the "puzzle of human cooperation"
You enjoy (and are persistent in) problem solving and working with complex data
Ability to work independently but also in a team
Basic knowledge of social dilemmas, economic games, and game theory is also helpful
Prior experience in investigating group dynamics experimentally (or theoretically) is desirable
Very good statistical and methodological knowledge (e.g., prior knowledge about hierarchical/multilevel regression analysis is helpful)
Programming skills (R, MatLab, Python/oTree) are desirable
Excellent verbal and written English skills
What we offer:
You will have the unique opportunity to engage in a societally relevant, theoretically important, and challenging research project to advance our understanding of human cooperation. Also, this project will allow you to earn your PhD (Dr. phil.) at the renowned University of Zurich.
We offer a dynamic, collaborative, and interdisciplinary research environment with plenty of opportunities to develop your academic career – as such, you will be part of a newly established research group at the Professorship of Social and Economic Psychology, working in close collaboration with the chair and a young team of researchers. In addition, you will have diverse opportunities for networking with international and interdisciplinary researchers, as well as generous support for professional travel and research needs. Furthermore, the doctoral program of the University of Zurich's Department of Psychology will allow you to develop and strengthen your research skills.
The University of Zurich is one of Switzerland's leading research universities with excellent working conditions, competitive salary, and generous social benefits. Conditional on APProval of the PhD proposal by the end of the first year, funding is guaranteed for four years total.
Start of employment:
Employment start date is August 1st, 2022 or by agreement.
APPlications will be considered until both positions are filled. Ideally submit your APPlication before April 1st, 2022. Please enclose the following documents to your APPlication:
CV
Statement describing your motivation, personal qualifications, and research interests (max. 2 pages)
