意大利傳教士圣 ·? 弗朗西斯曾在 100 多年前倡導(dǎo)在 10 月 4 日 “ 向獻(xiàn)愛(ài)心給人類(lèi)的動(dòng)物們致謝 ” 。為了紀(jì)念他，人們把 10 月 4 日定為 “ 世界動(dòng)物日 ” 。

Origin of World Animal Day

After many months of research which involved going through 300 magazines 1924-1936 at the Berlin library and copying every article related to World Animal Day, research at the Holocaust museum in Washington DC, transporting heavy volumes of books across continents, writing to numerous organizations and individuals and reading through hundreds of articles in German and Italian, we have a pretty clear picture about the origin of World Animal Day and the reliable information sources to support it.

編者按：10月4日是“世界動(dòng)物日”。今年新調(diào)整了《國(guó)家重點(diǎn)保護(hù)野生動(dòng)物名錄》中的野生動(dòng)物種類(lèi)，讓我們跟隨一位檢察官攝影師的鏡頭，一起來(lái)見(jiàn)證這些人類(lèi)朋友的神奇魅力與自由。

【節(jié)日宗旨】

　　慶祝“世界動(dòng)物日”的宗旨在于宣傳飼養(yǎng)伴侶動(dòng)物所帶來(lái)的樂(lè)趣，讓公眾意識(shí)到動(dòng)物對(duì)人類(lèi)社會(huì)所做的貢獻(xiàn)，同時(shí)促使各個(gè)動(dòng)物保護(hù)組織齊心協(xié)力，推動(dòng)人們以負(fù)責(zé)任的態(tài)度飼養(yǎng)伴侶動(dòng)物。

　　【紅色名錄】

　　成立于1948年的世界自然保護(hù)聯(lián)盟，總部位于瑞士格朗，這個(gè)著名的國(guó)際自然保護(hù)組織定期發(fā)布的瀕危物種“紅色名單”是最具權(quán)威性的物種評(píng)估文件。

　　進(jìn)入21世紀(jì)，“世界動(dòng)物日”變得越來(lái)越沉重，由于人類(lèi)活動(dòng)的影響，越來(lái)越多的動(dòng)物瀕臨滅絕邊緣。在著名環(huán)保組織“世界自然保護(hù)聯(lián)盟”2008年9月公布的2007年瀕危物種“紅色名單”，稱(chēng)全球有1.6萬(wàn)多個(gè)生物物種有滅絕危險(xiǎn)，其中動(dòng)物在這份紅色名單中占據(jù)多數(shù)，猿、禿鷹、北極熊、河馬、鯊魚(yú)、珊瑚、海豚等人們非常熟悉的動(dòng)物物種都存在滅絕危險(xiǎn)。

　　名單顯示，全球有41415個(gè)物種面臨生存威脅。其中，有16306個(gè)物種有滅絕危險(xiǎn)，比2006年增加了188種。近500年來(lái)，全球已有785個(gè)已知物種滅絕，另有65個(gè)物種通過(guò)圈養(yǎng)或人工培育存活。

　　據(jù)估計(jì)，人類(lèi)有記錄的物種約有170萬(wàn)個(gè)。世界自然保護(hù)聯(lián)盟特別強(qiáng)調(diào)了動(dòng)物物種的危險(xiǎn)性，截止2008年9月地球上四分之一的哺乳動(dòng)物、三分之一的兩棲動(dòng)物、八分之一的鳥(niǎo)類(lèi)正面臨生存危險(xiǎn)。

　　【紀(jì)念活動(dòng)】

　　愛(ài)護(hù)動(dòng)物已經(jīng)是世界十大環(huán)保工作之一，所以自二十世紀(jì)20年代開(kāi)始就有各國(guó)的環(huán)保團(tuán)體在10月4日舉行各種活動(dòng)，以紀(jì)念10月4日世界動(dòng)物日，和紀(jì)念圣方濟(jì)各，宣傳愛(ài)護(hù)動(dòng)物、尊重動(dòng)物，正視、善待與人類(lèi)息息相關(guān)的動(dòng)物。中國(guó)自1997年，正視世界動(dòng)物日的存在，并開(kāi)始組織有關(guān)的活動(dòng)來(lái)紀(jì)念這一天。中國(guó)北京有愛(ài)護(hù)動(dòng)物協(xié)會(huì)、小動(dòng)物保護(hù)協(xié)會(huì)等多家民間公益性質(zhì)的團(tuán)體，它們每年都會(huì)紀(jì)念世界動(dòng)物日

氣候變暖對(duì)動(dòng)物造成的危害

　　1.動(dòng)物進(jìn)化失去規(guī)則

　　傳統(tǒng)觀點(diǎn)認(rèn)為進(jìn)化是一個(gè)緩慢發(fā)展的過(guò)程，需要好幾代的時(shí)間。然而，一些新的研究表明，面對(duì)瞬息萬(wàn)變的環(huán)境，植物和動(dòng)物物種出現(xiàn)跳躍式的進(jìn)化速度，主要原因是氣候變化。氣候變化加速爬行動(dòng)物進(jìn)化，某些動(dòng)物為了順應(yīng)氣候變化進(jìn)化出形態(tài)各異的模樣。　

　　2.某些動(dòng)物變得更大

　　科學(xué)家發(fā)現(xiàn)，目前的全球變暖趨勢(shì)可能對(duì)動(dòng)物的體型產(chǎn)生影響。美國(guó)加利福尼亞州的研究人員發(fā)現(xiàn)，舊金山灣和雷斯岬國(guó)家海岸公園附近的鳥(niǎo)類(lèi)在過(guò)去的40至27年里慢慢變得更大。這一發(fā)現(xiàn)表明一些動(dòng)物采用體型變大的方式應(yīng)對(duì)氣候變化。　　

　　3.某些動(dòng)物變得更小

　　近期，有越來(lái)越多的研究顯示，北極熊、松鼠、青蛙、果蠅等動(dòng)物的個(gè)頭都在變小。調(diào)查結(jié)果表明受變暖影響，世界上很多動(dòng)物不再需要儲(chǔ)存過(guò)多熱量度日，因此在攝取食物和營(yíng)養(yǎng)時(shí)變得消極，身體素質(zhì)大不如從前。受此影響，動(dòng)物的生長(zhǎng)發(fā)育會(huì)變遲緩，個(gè)頭也會(huì)長(zhǎng)得越來(lái)越小?！?/p>

　　4.動(dòng)物某些功能喪失

　　研究人員發(fā)現(xiàn)，空氣中二氧化碳含量越高，海水吸收二氧化碳越多，酸性就越強(qiáng)。這導(dǎo)致棲息于珊瑚礁與巖礁的小丑魚(yú)正在失去它們的聽(tīng)力。這意味著，小丑魚(yú)監(jiān)聽(tīng)捕食者聲音的能力降低，生存受到威脅。除躲避捕食者外，聲音在搜尋同伴、集體捕獵、覓食中也具有重要作用，如果小丑魚(yú)失去所有這些能力，后果不堪設(shè)想。

　　5.鳥(niǎo)類(lèi)滅絕

　　火烈鳥(niǎo)：生活在加勒比海、南美洲、亞洲和非洲，居住在潮濕的地方。氣候變化對(duì)它們生存環(huán)境的可用性和質(zhì)量構(gòu)成威脅。

　　伊洛瓦底江海豚：生活在孟加拉國(guó)和東南亞其他地方，依靠河口的淡水過(guò)活。淡水溫度和鹽度的變化可能會(huì)對(duì)海豚長(zhǎng)期生存造成影響。

　　麝牛：生活在北極凍原惡劣環(huán)境中的動(dòng)物。它面臨著大灰熊的捕食，因?yàn)樵絹?lái)越多的大灰熊會(huì)向北遷徙，進(jìn)入麝牛的領(lǐng)地。

　　玳瑁：遠(yuǎn)洋航行的爬行動(dòng)物，具有溫度依賴(lài)性。較高溫的度可導(dǎo)致更多的雌性孵化，這一點(diǎn)能使其性別比率失衡，從而影響它的壽命。

氣候變暖動(dòng)物有喜有憂(yōu)

　　降水的增加可以通過(guò)改善植被，從而有利于鼠類(lèi)種群的增長(zhǎng)。研究表明，降水的增加使原本干旱的內(nèi)蒙古地區(qū)植物更加豐富，也增加了鼠類(lèi)的食物，長(zhǎng)爪沙鼠種群密度隨之增加。蚜蟲(chóng)是唯一一類(lèi)對(duì)二氧化碳濃度升高響應(yīng)發(fā)生種群增加的昆蟲(chóng)。二氧化碳濃度升高，蚜蟲(chóng)個(gè)體取食量增加。同時(shí)，二氧化碳濃度的升高還降低了蚜蟲(chóng)對(duì)報(bào)警信息素的響應(yīng)，同時(shí)降低了天敵昆蟲(chóng)對(duì)蚜蟲(chóng)的捕食作用。未來(lái)蚜蟲(chóng)的發(fā)生與危害將更加嚴(yán)重。

This draws attention to animal issues?and?makes them front-page news – a vital catalyst for change. Amina Abaza, who heads the Society for the Protection of Animal Rights in Egypt (SPARE), has used World Animal Day to successfully lobby for the addition of a clause about animal welfare in the new Egyptian Constitution and, more recently, submitted a Model Animal Welfare Act to the Egyptian Parliament.
Another ground-breaking event achieved by SPARE was held at Cairo University’s Faculty of Veterinary Medicine where animals are used in education. Attended by professors, students, the Dean and Vice Dean of the Faculty, and other dignitaries, speeches were made by the President of the Egyptian Veterinary Association and representatives of several, highly-respected animal welfare NGOs to increase awareness about alternatives to the use of animals in education and a film was shown about animal suffering throughout the world.
Both Animals Lebanon and AnimaNaturalis Colombia have achieved a Municipal Resolution that requires the Secretariats of the Environment and Civic Culture to commemorate World Animal Day each year, which is helping tremendously to raise awareness among citizens about the ethical treatment of animals.
The Sudanese Animal Care & Environmental Organisation’s greatest achievement is the introduction of animal protection legislation by the Sudanese parliament. Much of the work to achieve this magnificent goal is attributed to increased awareness of animal welfare issues brought about by World Animal Day.
In many countries, World Animal Day is now being celebrated by various government departments. ?For example, the Himalayan Animal Rescue Trust (HART) is delighted that Nepal's Department of Livestock Services gets involved each year. Khageshwaar Sharma, our Ambassador in Nepal says: World Animal Day events encourage people to work together to sensitise communities, making them aware of the needs of animals they live among, and also of how they can improve their lives. There are other days linked to animals such as:?World Day for Laboratory Animals on 24 April and?World Wildlife Day on 3 March, and these?are important too. However, World Animal Day is the one day of the year that embraces all animals and the unique concerns of each, in every country.?It’s a special opportunity to commemorate our love and respect for animals by doing something special to highlight their importance in the world. ?It unites the?animal welfare movement, mobilising it into a global force for change.?Participation in celebrating World Animal Day grows each year, with a huge variety of inspiring events being held in an increasing number of countries. In 2003, we recorded 44 events being held in 13 countries and this has now grown to an estimated 1000 events in around 100 countries. The role of a World Animal Day Ambassador

Our wonderful team of World Animal Day Ambassadors?is made up of?volunteers, who carry out two primary roles:

Create awareness of the World Animal Day movement and its mission to raise the status of animals, in order to improve welfare standards around the globe.?
Encourage animal welfare organisations, community groups, youth?and children’s clubs, businesses?and individuals to organise events in celebration of this special day.

We ask Ambassadors to perform the following tasks throughout the year:

Contact organisations, schools, groups, clubs, sanctuaries and individuals to encourage them to organise events in celebration of World Animal Day, on or around October 4?(including non-animal related groups such as Brownies, Scouts, and other community groups);
Contact animal-related websites and encourage them to create a website link to help spread the message about the World Animal Day movement;
Contact celebrities in their country asking them for a written pledge of support, accompanied by an image, that can be added to the website ‘Celebrity Support’ page, to help maintain a truly international feel;
Submit articles to newspapers, magazines, radio and television leading up to October 4 in order to maximise media coverage which, in turn, will increase involvement in celebrations.
Organise an event each year in celebration of this special day.
Engage with the official World Animal Day social media channels.
