About the project
Applications are invited for a PhD studentship in the field of machine learning in medical imaging, which will be jointly hosted by Department of Electronics and Electrical Engineering and the College’s new I-X initiative. The PhD position is partially funded for international students and fully funded for home student (UK). It is especially targeted at PhD applicants with an interest in artificial intelligence and healthcare.
The PhD research will explore the important topics of machine learning solutions for improving medical imaging workflow. Particularly, the research project will focus on investigating advanced deep learning approaches for inverse problems. It will develop approaches that can incorporate explicit prior knowledge into deep learning methods for data-efficient and interpretable learning. The aim of the research is to combine the best of knowledge-driven and data-driven approaches for inverse medical imaging problems, such as image reconstruction and image registration. The research is at the intersection of artificial intelligence and healthcare and has the potential to make significant positive impact on society by improving patient care through better diagnosis and treatment.

Qualification
Applicants are expected to have a First Class or Distinction Masters level degree, or equivalent, in a relevant scientific or technical discipline, such as computer science, mathematics or engineering. About the project
The group of Dr. Joachim Van Guyse at the Leiden Academic Center for Drug Research (LACDR) has an opening for 1 PhD position in synthetic polymer chemistry. The PhD student will participate in a project focused on engineering polymers for the delivery of nucleic acids, messenger (m)RNA in particular. The overall aim of the research is to develop novel poly(2-oxazoline)-polypeptide block-copolymers, lipid-polymer conjugates and nucleic acid formulations thereof by employing new synthetic methodologies and state of the art techniques.
The research topic in this position involves the development of structure-activity relationships of the synthesized block-copolymers and lipid-polymer conjugates in the development of nucleic acid formulations to facilitate systemic circulation and improve the biodistribution of nucleic acid therapeutics.
Objectives:?
1) Synthesis and characterization of poly(2-oxazline)-polypeptide block copolymers and poly(2-oxazline)-lipid conjugates, bioconjugation of targeting ligands and conjugation of imaging moieties;
2) formulation development using state-of-art techniques, e.g. microfluidics;
3) in-depth physicochemical characterization of the formulations, followed by in vitro and in vivo evaluation of selected systems with respect to gene expression, cellular uptake, mRNA stability, biodistribution and circulation.
Selection criteria
The candidates should have a Master’s degree in synthetic chemistry, polymer chemistry or Materials science with a strong background in polymer or organic synthesis, ideally with experience in the polymerization of 2-oxazolines and/or NCAs. Moreover, knowledge or experience regarding characterization techniques (MALDI-TOF-MS, light scattering, SEM/TEM, Fluorescence (e.g. FRET)) is required. Besides well-founded chemical expertise, a keen interest in the application of material science to their biological evaluation and interest in therapeutic needs is expected. We are looking for team players that are capable to independently plan and execute their research tasks within an interdisciplinary project, which combines chemists, physicists, biologists and clinicians. Candidates should have the ability to think creatively and combine an excellent command of the English language with strong communication skills. Terms and conditions
We offer a full-time, one year term position, with the possibility of renewal for an additional 3 years based on performance. Starting date will be as soon?as?possible.
You will be appointed in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities. The salary ranges from € 2.541,- to € 3.247,- gross per month, depending on experience (pay scale P).

About the project
PhD scholarship in Multi-Task Learning for Construction Robotics Perception
Would you like to combine novel machine learning approaches with autonomous robots in the construction sector? We are inviting a fully funded 3-year PhD position in the area of multi-task learning for construction robotics perception.
The PhD project is funded by the Horizon Europe project?RobétArmé (Human-robot collaborative construction system for shotcrete digitization and automation through advanced?perception, cognition, mobility and additive manufacturing skills). Thus, this PhD project?will be an integral part of a broader research team, consisting of collaborating partners across Europe with a common passion for autonomous construction robotics.
The PhD candidate will explore multi-task learning methods to analyse data from multiple different sensors onboard an autonomous mobile robot,?while the?perception system needs to operate under harsh environmental and lighting conditions. The ultimate goal of this PhD project is to integrate information extracted from sensor data (such as semantic information about depicted objects, defects or other relevant information for shotcreting) in reconstructed BIM/CIM models. As a result, the research topic of this PhD project stands at the intersection of Machine Learning, Computer Vision and Robotics.
Responsibilities and qualifications

As part of our research team:
-You will be responsible for developing the AI perception system of a mobile robot, endowing it with the capability to autonomously analyse data from its various sensors.
-You will engage in novel research around deep learning and 2D/3D computer vision for a well-defined real problem.
-You will participate in the integration and field testing of the robotic platform, together with our other high-profile European partners of the RobétArmé project.
At DTU, you will be part of the Automation & Control Group and you will find yourself among multiple PhD students and senior researchers working on multiple aspects of autonomous systems and robotics. Your PhD project will result in scientific publications and experimental validation of your results. You will present at international conferences as part of your research training and you will in addition sharpen your didactics skills through experience as teaching assistant.
Qualifications
Candidates should have a two-year master's degree (120 ECTS points)?in Autonomous Systems, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent,?or a similar degree with an academic level equivalent to a two-year master's degree.
Additionally, it would be nice to have any experience with some of the following:
-Specialization in machine learning or robot vision would be an advantage.
-Experience with open-source tools for machine learning and robot vision would be an advantage.
-Familiarity with design of deep neural networks architectures would be an advantage.
