1. Design Principles---1-1.Course Overvie

P2 - 00:00?

?Alright guys, let's get started. so this course will be all about telling your stories, and as many of you know, like whatever media you using open canvas, could be sketchbook, it could be photoshop, it could be 3D. there is nothing.?

And when I was starting, I had a big big trouble to actually start doing something.? because it cause it was me over here. My story is over here. And between me and my story is there was a huge gap and which was called the lack of knowledge.?

So I had some ideas. Like my head was full of ideas. Right. But ideas are nothing. If they don't have any visual representation, everybody has ideas like, ask any guy around you.?

Everybody has good ideas. Everybody knows how to do stuff. But not many people actually do this thing. they don't put something that makes sense. They don't create visuals. They don't create designs that don't make products.?

They don't do anything because for many people, there is this huge gap, which is called lack of knowledge.?

P2 - 01:26因?yàn)槿狈χR。?

So all these years, and what I was trying to do, I was trying to minimize this gap, which is called lack of knowledge. But the problem with this gap, this gap is so big that actually it will take a lifetime to kind of close some of it. and probably I will never close it at all,?

because there is always something you don't know. Because the tools are improving skills. First you need to learn the tools, right? Which is also included in this lack of knowledge. You learned the tool and tomorrow there is another tool and you need to learn it again. Tomorrow is another tool. You need to learn it again.?

So tools. This is the first part of this gap, let's say, like this. The second part, principles. Oh, actually, this one is something that you really need to start from. Like, you can learn tools all the way through your journey towards the stories. But principles is something that is somewhere here. And if you don’t know principles. It will be very difficult for you to use these actual tools,?

imagine like this simple example. scissors,? we all know what scissors are for. These are scissors. And this is a simple tool, When we were kids, our parents would say, don't use this one. Don't use this one, because we really didn't understand how to use this one. And this is a very powerful tool. We use it on a daily basis.?

So if you want to use those tools properly, you need to understand principles. And I will be teaching. I will actually start from these principles, because once we understand the principles, it will be easier for us using these actual tools and.?

The third thing we should also kind of life time challenge is actually practicing. Drop here practicing. And it's also lifetime challenge because master your tools just take ages,?

You can meet the old people who are still having these sketchbooks sitting in the park, trying to make the paintings and stuff like that. So actually practicing and polishing in learning new tools is it always is also a lifetime Challenge.?

So does that mean that you will never reach your stories? No, not at all. ?

Because first we will learn principles. This is the least just a random list. But in order of priority, the first thing we learn of the principles.?

Of course. Ok. Also I cannot write properly, but that's not the problem. And then we will have tools and practice.?

I would put bottom of this together. We’ll learn this one properly. I will go the principles that will allow you to fill your canvas and create your own stories.?

And these guys who show a lot of tools as well. And we will practice a lot. this is something you should just keep doing every day and you will just get better and better.?

And might think with tools and practice. Like I learned the principles pretty fast. like I was able to understand the principles because you can just study them really well, big dipper and understand them.?

But then this guy comes in, the tools and the practice. And you don't have a lot of experience. It's really difficult to put your stories together. ?

But The good news is that we are living in the 21st century. There are a lot of things that could alter made our process,?

like let's say. Perspective, like knowing perspective is rule number one for anyone who is doing environments or anything, because in order to make your story believable, you need to understand that the principles of perspective.?

But these days there are a lot of tools that will actually make your life easier. like, let's go back like few thousand years. And to make a fire like a simple firing. You had to do a lot of work, like doing a simple fire was a one of the big challenge. but these days, all you need is just this one or you need this guy, which is lighter, right??

So these tools make our life so much easier. So that's why I keep saying like I keep teaching my students and keep using? a lot of methods myself that would make my life easier. I'm not proving anyone that I can do fire from scratch, which potentially I probably can't do it.?

But it's just time consuming. I don't I don't have time for that. So that's why we're using a lot of shortcuts that will allow you to create our stories faster and just concentrate on main principles and ideas. because whenever you're busy like this guy who used to live here, let's say this guy. He used to do this 5000 years ago. He would spend hours and hours trying to get this fire.?

And then the rest of his day for something else. But this guy, he is the modern guy. He spends two minutes, like 10, 20 seconds on making fired. And the rest of his day he spent on something else, which is more Intelligence stuff like going to work, reading books and doing all that stuff.?

like for example, if you talk with all the people that are older than you, they always complain that, oh my god, this washing machines like they do all the hard work.?

Nobody is actually doing stuff anymore. like especially my mom is always like complaining that the young ladies, they never would have thought. Well, the young ladies do some other stuff. that's why people created washing machines.?

So I will be showing a lot of different things that will help you to actually minimize your effort, like physical effort, and concentrate on ideas.?

instead of concentrating on your hands, You can create perspective by just using your hand. If you had a pan, and you will draw. This is perspective and stuff like that. That's fine. That's cool.?

But we will be using this guy. Which is inside here, because we will use different shortcuts to create our perspective and then concentrate on the brain. we will use our storytelling and ideas generator.?

This is the most precious start. Like everybody has hands, that's why the more brain you use, the more valuable you are.?

So my goal in this course will be teaching your principles, showing your tools and showing you how to practice those tools. But also my biggest goal will be to shave your effort towards this guy instead of these guys, we are not proving anyone that we can construct like 10 vanishing point perspective.?

We just want to prove ourselves that we can build those guys who have ideas and who can create their stories.?

?

1. Design Principles---1-2.Simplicity

P3 - 00:01?

?before I move on to principle , I want to share something else with you as well. this is something that I want you guys to get this course. And this thing is called being simple, so let’s put it as a header.?

So what does that mean? so let's again do this chart, this will be me anchor m stories. So between me and my stories, as I have already shown that there is a lot of like knowledge, understanding of main principles, tools and practicing and etc.?

but also this way is not a straightforward path. it could be like this. Like this.?

in order to be very successful designer, painter, storyteller, I find you need to select the easiest way and the most straightforwardly,?

that's why when I will be showing you different tools, I will be trying to simplify them as much as possible.?

Because the simpler tool once again, the more time you will get for your creative process.?

I will be showing some advanced stuff as well. Like, it's not like I'm saying the notes used like very over complicated tools.?

But if there is a small simple authority for it, you should definitely go for it.?

Because it's not about once again, showing off how many problems you know or how many different approaches you have, or showing off that you can create, like realistic painting just with a pen.?

And it's not about that. it's about stories, like that's why I'm saying ideas are more powerful. People basically pay more money for your ideas instead of hard labor, ?

almost everybody can learn how to draw. But not everyone can actually generate different ideas,?

be unique and tell their own stories. That's why we will start very, very simple. For example,?

the tools that I will be showing this first as they are very straightforward and anyone who knows photoshop can use it basically,?

like I will be showing different ways of painting as well.?

But for me, the the best storytelling tools is definitely a line drawing,?

because you can convey so much just a very rough line drawing. what is this story about??

Like it doesn't make sense. But if you put a couple of ideas, there was a cowboy. And then what's the story about where is this cowboy??

And if you put another cowboy over there. And then you have this integration between those two guys. ?

then you just frame them, and you get the story. And it’s so simple, none of the complicated techniques involved here.?

Value is right? Not really. That's why this one is simple.?

And simple is good, because in two minutes you can tell your own story.?

Let’s make a similar blog. Who is this guy? What is it??

but if you make something like this. It's actually probably girl. Put a hair then. This is a girl with a dog. Make a hand. Some legs. What is the story here, I don’t know, maybe she is walking in the park, what you need to do is put on couple of trees.?

There is another story, and it’s very simple. ?

that’s why I think the line drawing is the best design tool,?

because it allowed you to eliminate all the more complicated techniques.?

You just put values. If you start putting like perspective on that. I mean all of this stuff, because you can still pick with line drawing, ?

It just takes so much time and remember, you need to select the easiest way to get to your own ideas or something that's just a couple of drawing.?

who is this guy? I don't know. Let’s put a famous role. What’s the story here? Maybe there is a river, there is a panorama, you can place the frame like this, and your story is done.?

You know to tell your stories, anyone can draw these really simple primitive figures.?

all you need to do is just where to put the accents. Like If you want to show the scale, you just need to make one of the guys smaller. And then you have the space. That's why you need to understand the principles.?

Like how do I make this picture more impactful.?

And you can know the principles that it would be so easy for you to like, let's say you draw your figure, right. This is a simple plot, but then you use design principles in order to divide this and create more complicated shape.?

You can divide, who is this guy? Oh, I don’t know, if you put a small indicator.?

this is probably an astronaut. because anyone can recognize this kind of shapes. Now make him a little bit bigger. this guy is is astronaut. ?

Do I fall anatomy? not really, because all I care about is just to show my astronaut somewhere.?

put it somewhere what the guy is doing. Maybe he is following his airplane, I’m doing this very quickly, nothing about sexy paintings. I see this as a big downside of todays’s concept art painting. ?

people just see sexy pictures too much. They forget about design, they forget about simple things, like sexy pictures are good to get like on Facebook. Trust me, life will never bring you to a good point, rarely pay your bills somewhere.?

If you want to be a successful story teller, you’d better learn principles and use tools that will allow you to quickly create stories to show them to the client.?

I kept show you this frame to your direction and say, okay, I'm thinking about this kind of thing and he will say no, or maybe it will say yes. ?

Oh, like even when you draw your own stuff, just brainstorm. And then maybe that friend? wasn't good. Maybe I should use something else, maybe I should get closer and you see the guy better. ?

and you see the guy in close distance. and now there is a closer interaction. any stuff like that. So simple is very good. Don’t neglect it. because using simple tools you can generate so many ideas by using really small amount of time.?

It's just cage several blocks. Who is this guy? This guy is a Mexican. Who is this guy? This guy is the native America. Who is this guy, this guy is punk, So you use. Just keep in mind, being simple doesn't mean being primitive. Simple is always good, because if it starts simple, it will be stronger in your ideas. And you will be very flexible and readjust things as well. Just by putting strong stroke, can change the courage to complete, ?

Or the environment as well, let’s say this was a horizon line, maybe this is a rock, then put another one. Now this make sense, now you get a scale, very simple, you put the spear, so it’s all about simple, I hope you guys get the point. Let’s move on and see what we can do with the principles. ?
