Hearing of the passing of someone my age last month stirred in me a profound awe of life and a deep dread of mortality. The passing of someone our age can be particularly distressing, even though we are accustomed to hearing of people dying every day. Although death may be a relief, it is impossible to ask the deceased if they felt the same way after their lives were cut short in an instant.
Reflecting on the years I have lived, 24 years is neither long nor short - it is a reminder of how quickly time passes. It is impossible to know when our last breath will be, yet we rarely take the time to recognize the preciousness of the breath we have at this moment and how many are striving for this single second of life; it is beyond comprehension. It is commonly said that we only understand the value of something when it is gone, but this sentiment does not hold in this case. If we are already not breathing, what's the point that we learn from this misfortune? What a living joke.
Humans are continually exploring the purpose of their being on this earth, for Life has a beginning and an end, suggesting there must be a greater meaning to its presence.
I still vividly remember a line from Avatar 2, "All the energy is borrowed and will be returned one day". We are all just passers-by in this world, so no matter what happened, what we encounter, it does not matter. You and I are just passing through, you came to my life, I came to your life, we met, I stayed, you stayed. but like said, One day, life will return to its original starting point, and you and I exist and pass away only in the Exterminator's snapping fingers, so let's be kind, life is good.
