Follow Studied and worked in China for 8 years6y
As a foreigner living in China for almost 9 years and have 2 family members that lived in Japan for more than 10 years, I would personally say its better to live in China especially in the “Future”.
China
1. Development: Rapid development economically over the last 20 years is unprecedented and will continue to develop in the years to come.
2. Expenses: Depends if your living in a tier 1 city like Beijing or Shanghai most cities are very affordable, buying daily food expenses are very cheap.
3. Safety: I stayed in a tier 2 and 3 city after my college years in China (Xiamen and Longyan), walking and listening to my headphones at 2am in the night and never had anything happen.
4. Work: If you want to fully grab high paying working opportunities you must learn the local language. All in all working opportunities in China is broad and you will get better offers as you learn Chinese, and being a foreigner is a plus!
5. Transportation: While it is truly chaos when it comes to Chinese transportation, it is a very efficient one, getting to one city to another offers a lot of choices from expensive (plane) to cheap (train/bus) and its all very convenient!
All in all, while we always get negative news in the media nowadays, being in China and seeing all the progress it is safe to say its a good place to live in the future!

1Japan Did develop fast in the same moment in their development before. It’s easier playing catch up than to be the leader as you can’t learn from others. That is why all the developed economies grow more slowly.
2 If the country is developing very fast the prices will go up too.
3Same as in Japan + better medical service in Japan
4So the same as Japan
5Not as efficent as Japan which probably has one of the better systems in the world.

China produced the most new advanced technologies in the past year. They are not just catching up.
Even the prices will go up, will be noway close to Japan. As an Island country, Japan really lack of resources. When China can at least produce most their need in their own land.
Safe is safe, no comparison needed.
China has way more opportunities compare to Japan.
You are so wrong here, nowadays, transportation technologies in China are much more advanced than Japan. If you compare Tokyo and Shanghai, I’d vote Shanghai.
Overall, China still suffering environmental issues which will be the biggest downvote for living in China. Besides that, Japan will be not even close to China in the future in every aspect. Tier 1 Cities in China are already in developed countries level. However, if they are going to keep developing the entire countries in the future, there is still huge potential and tons of opportunities in China.

But Build quality is still not there. For quality manufacturing all the world still chooses Taiwan over mainland. Also any data to support your claim? I know many new tech Chinese companies but very few products I would actually want to own. For now you are basically Japan in the 70s. World leaders in tech and economy slow their growth because they can't learn from others
Prices in big cities in China start going up when living in them becomes more attractive.
Here I agree. There might be more opportunities. It is easier to find a great position in China and there are better development prospects.
You are completely wrong and it shows by saying “transportation systems are so advanced”. Technology doesn’t make a good public transportation system. Organisation does. Look at Switzerland praised for one of the most efficent rail systems in the world. Their trains aren’t the newest ones but they are well organized, maintained and clean.

i dont think the reason the slow growth is that they can’t learn from others. Developed countries don’t grow as much becase they are already developed enough there is nothing else to develop.

DJI, nothing in Japan compares
China is incredibly cheap since its a developing country, its an outlier though in that it has first world infrastructure in many of its cities
Japan is slightly safer than China but both are significantly safer than the west
Not “might” there is far more opportunities in China than in Japan
Chinese maintenance of infrastructure is better than most western countries especially countries like America and Australia.
