英語當(dāng)中許多的詞匯或者短語聽起來都一樣，但表述的意思卻完全不同。如果沒有正確使用，可能會(huì)使原本合理的表達(dá)變得看起來是錯(cuò)誤的。因此，用詞混淆不可忽視！

1.Number vs Amount

amount 是用在不可數(shù)名詞上，像是錢、信息、時(shí)間等。

例句：We received an enormous amount of help from our university.

number 用于可數(shù)名詞，像是工作、樣本、機(jī)器等。

例句：I had a small number of specimens left.

number 和 amount 的使用是根據(jù)所形容的名詞是否可數(shù)，因此彼此間并無法相互替代。

accord即協(xié)議。

例如：The Paris Accord is a climate agreement.

accordance意指一致性。

例如：The enzyme levels in the HeLa cells were in accordance with previous studies.

hypothesis是根據(jù)知識(shí)與經(jīng)驗(yàn)的猜想，尚未經(jīng)過測(cè)試或證明。

theory 是已經(jīng)被重復(fù)測(cè)試并有證據(jù)支持的科學(xué)思想。

as a result 表示由于，用于表達(dá)一事件是另一項(xiàng)事情的起因。

例句：The results of the experiment were inconclusive. As a result, the research had to be repeated.

based on the results 和 the results revealed是表示根據(jù)特定結(jié)果得到的。

例句：Based on the results of the experiment, we concluded that bats are nocturnal creatures.

farther指的是物理距離

例如：The restriction fragments of BamHI migrated farther than those generated by SacI,

further則指的是無法測(cè)量的距離。

Induce意思是基于觀察形成普遍原理，

例如：Based on close observation of the flora and fauna of the Galapagos Islands, Darwin induced his theory of evolution,

deduce意思是基于普遍原理的使用得出結(jié)論。

例如：We were able to deduce that the genes would be closely related between the two species of fly based on the theory of evolution.
