1. His entire adult life had been consumed by the intoxication and compulsion of
gamblingaway hundreds of thousands of dollars on everything from online poker to
sports.
他成年后的整個人生都是在狂賭帶來的亢奮和沖動中揮霍掉的,從網(wǎng)上撲克到
體育比賽賭了個遍,共輸?shù)袅藥资f美元。
2. The most recent survey showed Jordanese disapproval dropping to 80 percent, but
Pew's 2005 study of global attitudes was still titled “US image up slightly, but still
negative”.
但是皮尤研究所 2005 年關(guān)于全球態(tài)度的研究報告仍沿用了這樣的標題:“美國
形象略有提升,但仍然是負面的”。
3. Not for nothing are they known as one of the most dangerous bears in the country.
它們被冠以國內(nèi)最危險的野獸之一的名分可不是鬧著玩的。

這句當中,“was accounted”是被動式,也是英文里常有的用法,例如“was
recognized” “was acclaimed”“was acknowledged”“was regarded”,可譯成“堪
稱”“有……之稱””享有…之譽”“眾人視為”。
