P2 How to Learn English Alone

2023-03-22 17:41 作者:Seraph7_  | 我要投稿

Hi, guys. This is Elliot from ETJ English . com helping you become a fluent English speaker. Today's video is about learning English on your own.

Now I have somebody ask me on Facebook, whether it's possible to learn English on your own. And I replied with the simple answer, yes. Yes, it is.

And Now I decided I would create a video to explain to all of you how you can learn English on your own and how different the results will be.

If the reason why you learn English on your own is because you don't like language classes, then I completely understand. I hate language costs, I get things done better when I learn on my own which is why I'm learning Spanish on my own.

I just learn Spanish with an online tutor and with my own self-study. And this is how I recommend that you learn English on your own too. A lot of the time you can be more confident if you practice on your own. The internet can be your teacher.

However, when you're learning English on your own, that will be a few things which can hold you back a few things which might slow you down slightly.

But if you watch this video, this should help. When you learning English on your own, that's a very heavy weight on your shoulder. What I mean by this is that you are in control of your success.

It's up to you, but how much work you put in and what your goals are and how you achieve them.

So you need to have your priorities straight.[1]?所以你需要把優(yōu)先事項(xiàng)搞清楚。Here's a little checklist of the things you need if you want to learn English on your own.

Number one, you need a goal, you need to have a plan of how good you want to be. And you need to think about that every day.

Two you need motivation. You need motivation to achieve that goal.

Three you need techniques which aren't boring. If you get bored easily than learning English alone, it's gonna be hard. So you need to find ways to learn which will keep you entertained.

Four you need someone to practice with. You can't learn English on your own without having someone to practice with, because if you want to become fluent, you can't become fluent by just talking to yourself in the mirror or recording your voice. You need to practice speaking with someone which is what I'm here for. This is my job. I'm here to practice with you in my lessons.

So you need all of these things that I just mentioned. If you want to be successful, you will need these if you are going to get pronunciation correct if you're going to get all the correct grammar and vocabulary, you need to make sure you have all of those boxes ticked[2]. 字面意思是給每個(gè)ITEM前面的小方框打勾。

If you don't, then I suggest you learn English in a class. It's fine to learn all the phrases the tenses and the vocabulary on your own by reading and watching videos and social media.

But you do need someone to practice with and that's a point where you want to reach the next level and to reach the next level, you have to practice speaking with someone.

Practice is the most important part of learning English and if you don't have someone to practice with, then there's no point in your learning English. That's all really if you want to be a fluent English speaker.

So yes you can learn English on your own if it's something you prefer to do, then do it but don't just stay in your comfort zone.

Actually I read something recently which said that the 90% of success is achieved when you leave your comfort zone if you're learning English alone, you have to leave your comfort zone.

I'm about to tell you a tip. So once a week, I want you to do something that makes you feel uncomfortable, something which you don't normally do.

So for some people who are learning English alone, it might be speaking to someone in English because this makes a lot of people nervous.

But if you do this at least once a week, yeah you will be improving massively. So once a week do something that makes you feel uncomfortable and push you out of your comfort zone because you will learn the most when you leave your comfort zone.

It's very easy to get too comfortable when you're learning English on your own and you can easily get distracted by Facebook, your phone, your friends.

But when you're learning on your own, you need to treat it like a lesson. So make sure you set it as 30 minutes learning no distractions, no Facebook, no phones, nothing just English. If you need any more advice on learning English alone then you can book a lesson with me where I coach people on how to learn English as well as teaching vocabulary and phrases and everything...

  1. get (one's) priorities straight: (1) To focus one's attention, energy, or concern on that which is most and truly important, usually implying that one has not done so up to that point. eg: - After a month of drinking and partying and totally neglecting my studies, I realized that I needed to get my priorities straight if I wanted to graduate from college. - John took a little time off from work to get his priorities straight.(2) Do or get things in the right order of importance. eg: - If you think enjoying yourself is more important, then you need to get your priorities straight. - The country has got its priorities right — it has invested in industry to achieve economic success.??

  2. tick all the (right) boxes: To satisfy or fulfill everything that is necessary or desired. Primarily heard in UK. eg: - Of course, a prospective employee may tick all the right boxes on paper but might not be suited to the job once they're actually working for you. - His newest thriller ticks all the boxes the author's fans will be hoping for.??
