Out of the blue, the professor, who you secretly have a crush on, asked you to meet him/her in the office. You feel like something is up, but you can’t suppress the curiosity and decide to attend the meeting.?

(Door knocking)

(Door opened) (The students comes in)

I’ve been waiting for you.?

Please close the door behind you.

(Door closed)

Take a seat.?

Yes, it’s going to take a while.?

(Pause for a few more seconds)

(After listener sits down)

You seem … a bit uneasy. Is the room too cold? I can turn down the AC if you want.

Well. Better make yourself comfortable. I’m afraid I can’t let you go anytime soon.?

So, before I get into the topic, would you like to tell me what you think it is that I ask you for this meeting?

No. That is actually quite far from what I have in mind. On the contrary, the essay you handed in is rather well-formed. It has a clear construct, and the personalities of the characters are painted vividly. I can tell that you contributed a lot of time. Overall, I would say I’m quite impressed.?

However, there’s just one thing that makes me a bit … curious. Something about one character drew my attention. As the story goes on, I couldn’t help but notice how the role of professor is so much like me. Especially in some dialogues. I swear I said those exact words in the class before.?

At first, I thought I might just be overthinking or even being too full of myself. But then, there’s a scene where I distinctly remember it was a conversation I had with you, and it was a private one as far as I can recall. No one could have known about that, except you.?

Coming to that conclusion is truly unexpected.?

Is there anything you would like to add? Now that I put the whole thing on the table, perhaps you would like to say something to defend yourself?

(Sneering) Oh? Is that so?

Let me tell you something you don’t know about me, young lady/man; I can always tell when someone is lying. Allow me to point out that you have been rubbing your hands for so long that they are getting red now. Still, the shade is not nearly endearing as your blushing pink cheeks.?

Forgive me. I didn’t mean to make you fluster. But it’s such a dead giveaway. I couldn’t help but notice.

Maybe I should’ve warned you. I am not the kind of person who allows funny business, especially the kind done right under my nose.?

Denial would be an unwise decision as I have the evidence in my hand right now. (Scratching sounds of papers) I may as well read the texts to you if you insist that you have no idea what I'm talking about.?

(Flipping through the pages)

Ah, there it is.?

On page 6, here you wrote: “Here it goes again. Every glance between him/her and I haunts me in my dreams. It feels almost surreal how anyone can beam with so much charisma and make it so effortless. Yet, I am too embarrassed and scared to even approach him/her. How unfortunate that I can only admire him/her from a distance. Little did he/she know what I want from him/her is more than just watching.”

And it gets better. After two pages you wrote down (Clear throat) : “I thought I would always be a wallflower, but I was wrong. He/she truly sees me that day. In the hallway, I found a watch on the floor. The design of it seems so familiar that I was sure I must had?seen it before; it had a steel black strap and a silver engraving of a name initial behind it. All of sudden, a gentil voice interrupted my training thought. I looked up, and there you were right in front of me. You thanked me for finding your watch. Just when I thought that would be the end of our interaction, you put a finger on your lips and said to me: ‘This old thing stopped working long ago. I only wear it for the sentiment reason. Keep this just between us okay?’ That cheeky smile you gave me still lingers in my mind to this day.”?

Well, I could go on, but I think it is more than enough for now. So tell me, does it sound familiar to you at all? Because it certainly is for me. That’s exactly what I said that day. Word for word. As for that watch you mentioned, that is actually custom made. A one of its kind. I think it would be fair to assume it’s impossible that you just “happened to” include it in the story.?

Look at you, all flustered again. (Chuckles) How adorable. Did you really think you’re that smart that I wouldn’t find out??

The devil is in the details. (Chuckles) You really are all about the details, aren’t you? I hate to break it to you. It didn’t work out for you this time.You were trying to be clever, but what can I say? Maybe you enjoy this game a bit too much. That’s why you sold yourself out.?

There’re so many hints hiding here and there. I couldn’t even keep count. Did you enjoy the thrill of wondering whether I would see through your little game? Maybe you actually prefer…keeping yourself (whispering)on edge.?

Anyway, I suppose at least I can safely assume that you paid quite a lot of attention to my lectures. Still, it’s not exactly what I meant when I encouraged my students to “find inspiration from your life.” You might take that suggestion a bit too literally.?

(Chuckles) No need to be so anxious. I won’t flunk you for this. As I said, it is a rather well-composed story. I guess I have myself to blame for not being more specific when it comes to the essay requirements.?

The quality of your homework performance never seems to disappoint me, so delivering that level of composition is not exactly out of my expectation. However, you always give me the impression leaning to be … how should I put it … more reserved and quiet. I guess that's why I was so surprised.?

I must say, some of the scenes might be a little too explicit and graphic for my taste. Or perhaps that is just a shared flaw of every writer. They all get so hung up by their muses. When the inspiration hits you, there’s no effort left for thinking it twice. The only thing they want to do is respond to the awakening desires. Regardless, your work still proves how well you are at depicting the relationships and interactions between each character. (Chuckles) The dialogues undoubtedly feel realistic. At least I can give you credit for that.?

On another note, about the description of the professor, which is me as I presumed. I just want to tell you that I actually feel…quite flattered.?

There’s really nothing more enticing than an offer like this. Or perhaps it is better to call it a challenge.?

I knew immediately it’s more than a confession. You were not simply venting out your feelings for me. No, that would be way off. It’s something else. A well-organized invitation. And the sole purpose of it is to test me out. Is my deduction correct so far??

Good. Despite it taking me some time to get you to admit the little mischief you’ve done, I’m glad we finally came to an agreement. In that case, would you mind doing something for me? (Pause for a second) Lock the door behind you.?

Well, I haven't announced it to the class yet. But the assignment for next week is going to be another draft. I suppose you will be needing more “inspirations.”

Truth to be told, I wasn’t expected to be quite intrigued by your story. As the author, would you be so kind and reveal what is going to happen next? I don’t suppose you would be that cruel to leave me hanging.?

You see, I already cleared my schedule. We’ll have plenty of time to make a sequel to your story.?
