It was like something out of a movie.

Oh, there you go.Oh, there you go.

This is NBC Nightly News with Jose Diaz-Balart. Good evening. We are tracking major developments that could have serious impacts on the 2024 race for president. Former President Donald Trump is holding a rally right now. It's his first since new federal charges were filed against him. Mr. Trump has been defiant in the face of his growing legal troubles this weekend, when he and most of the other Republican candidates were on the same stage.

We've got a new look at just how his rivals plan to handle his legal issues. Meanwhile, President Biden with a major reversal, acknowledging for the first time that he has a seventh grandchild, this one born to his son, Hunter. Republicans have been criticizing Biden for ignoring her existence amid the ongoing legal troubles of his son. What do you make of all the recent charges against.

I don't believe for a minute and Trump is it?

Is it? I was just telling everybody it's God than Trump.

His rally tonight here in Erie, Pennsylvania, coming just days after special counsel Jack Smith brought three new federal charges alleging the former president tried to cover up the mishandling of classified documents at his Mar a Lago home by deleting surveillance video.

And I don't think they think that the tapes were even charges. My tapes that we gave to.

Them on stage tonight, Mr. Trump, defiant.

These are ridiculous indictments. And all they're doing is hoping for massive election interference. That's all they want to do.

Last night, Mr. Trump joined a dozen other GOP candidates at Iowa's Lincoln Dinner. Only one former Texas congressman will hurt took direct aim at the front runner. Donald Trump is running.

To stay out of prison. And if we elect.

Mr. Trump dominating the crowded GOP field, his top rival, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, is struggling to gain traction in national polls, and he's declining to weigh in on Mr. Trump's legal problems.

I understand you want to talk about some of that stuff, and I get it. And if I were in your position, I'd probably be asking the same questions.

Also, your Republican opponent here and he's the frontrunner.

And that's why I'm saying and that's why I've said if we make it about those issues, we're going to lose. If we make it about the vision for the future, we're going to win.

Former President Trump taking the stage here in Pennsylvania just a short time ago, stressing that he believes that these charges were brought to interfere with the election, a point we expect him to repeat constantly as his campaign ramps up.Former President Trump taking the stage here in Pennsylvania just a short time ago, stressing that he believes that these charges were brought to interfere with the election, a point we expect him to repeat constantly as his campaign ramps up.

I have six grandchildren.

The move comes one month after Navy's mother, London Roberts, a former exotic dancer, settled a paternity and child support dispute with Hunter in Arkansas. The first couple releasing a statement Friday saying, quote, Our son Hunter and Navy's mother LUNDEN are working together to foster a relationship that is in the best interests of their daughter, adding, This is not a political issue.

It's a family matter. But it's already become political, as the White House avoided the topic for months. Does the president acknowledge this little girl as his granddaughter? I don't have anything to share from here. Republicans seized on the silence.

Why don't you spend some time with your granddaughter in Arkansas?

How many grandchildren do you have using this?

And Hunter Biden's unraveling legal woes as political ammunition against the president. Hunter, in ongoing legal trouble after his plea deal to federal tax charges, fell apart this week when a Trump appointed Delaware judge raised questions about its terms. The president's commitment to family is central to his public persona. His grandchildren often appearing with him at campaign events and official trips around the world.

Hunter's eldest, Naomi, was married at the White House, and his youngest, Beau, has tagged along to Camp David.Hunter's eldest, Naomi, was married at the White House, and his youngest, Beau, has tagged along to Camp David.

I'm crazy about.I'm crazy about.

Them. The president and first lady saying they want what's best for all of their grandchildren, including privacy for their newest one. Navy.

And Al Arafa is with the president in Delaware tonight. Why did the president decide to acknowledge this grandchild now?

Yeah, well, a source familiar with the situation tells us that the president has avoided weighing in until now to give his son and Navy mother the time and space needed to navigate this holiday.Yeah, well, a source familiar with the situation tells us that the president has avoided weighing in until now to give his son and Navy mother the time and space needed to navigate this holiday.

It hit nose first. The tail went up over the cabin and then it fell back down. People are screaming.

The pilot seemed swimming to safety.

The lifeguard brought the pilot, which is the only occupant to shore for evaluating them now.

The pilot did a remarkably great job in knowing that they didn't want to land on the beach because it was full of people to crashes.

Also happening in Wisconsin, near the site of the EAA Airventure show in Oshkosh, the largest air show in the world. That's right. I would say more than 65,000 power outages have been reported in the mid-Atlantic as a result of those severe storms moving through the region. Now, those same storms are expected to cool things off here in the northeast and you can see they are quickly approaching. Meanwhile, the south is expected to continue sweltering.

Our economic and security partnership with Niger, which is significant. Hundreds of millions of dollars depends on the continuation of the democratic governance and constitutional order that has been disrupted.

The head of Niger's elite presidential National Guard declared himself the country's new leader two days after his forces detained President Mohamed Bazoum, who remains alive inside his residence. The U.S. government has not designated this a coup, a label that would halt more than $400 million of U.S. aid, along with some U.S. military support at a time when Niger is the strongest international partner in the fight against a growing threat from terror groups in West Africa.

That assistance, that support is in clear jeopardy as a result of these actions.

This West African nation is one of the world's poorest, but it boasts uranium mines valuable for energy and nuclear production, making it an attractive target for nations and terror groups looking to exploit the people and the resources here. The Russian mercenary volunteer group has not had a presence here in Niger, but the concern is they may try to exploit this power struggle to move in and expand their reach in West Africa.

Jose.
