在2002年的把北美國(guó)際車展上，Jeep推出了Compass Concept概念車，這是一款具有雙門車身，配備全時(shí)四驅(qū)的SUV。

2006年5月，Compass正式投入量產(chǎn)，分為三個(gè)版本發(fā)售，分別為基礎(chǔ)型Sport、中配型Latitude以及頂配型Limited。該車由克萊斯勒PM/MK平臺(tái)打造，交由伊利諾伊州的Belvidere組裝生產(chǎn)。

同平臺(tái)的Jeep車型還有Patriot，不過(guò)跟Compass這種休閑型SUV，Patriot更加傾向于傳統(tǒng)吉普旅行車，賣點(diǎn)也就不同。

由于這是一臺(tái)休閑型SUV，所以相比于同時(shí)期的Jeep車型，Compass的外觀要圓潤(rùn)許多，圓圓的車頭大燈在城市化設(shè)計(jì)的襯托下顯得有點(diǎn)萌，后門的門把手并非布置在后門門板上，而是在C柱上。

與休閑性的外觀不同，Compass的內(nèi)飾依舊采用較為粗獷的風(fēng)格，

2011年，Jeep推出了改款車型，相比于初期車型，改款車型的外觀變化可以說(shuō)翻天覆地，車頭造型最為明顯，因?yàn)閳A圓的車頭大燈沒(méi)了，城市化的味道更濃了。

相比于初期車型的內(nèi)飾，改款車型的內(nèi)飾倒是沒(méi)那么粗獷了，休閑化的風(fēng)格做得更好了。

?理論上來(lái)講，假如湊合著來(lái)用的話，Compass的表現(xiàn)應(yīng)該不錯(cuò)，但外媒表示這可是一臺(tái)純正的Jeep呀，越野不行、設(shè)計(jì)不行、質(zhì)量不行還想有好評(píng)？結(jié)果。。。。。：

即使進(jìn)行換代式的中期改款，Compass依舊難逃批判：
