I decided to answer this as an American who actually moved to the Netherlands. The other posters are Americans living Stateside who haven’t emigrated and are speculating.
There are three main reasons I left the US:
The US has a cruel social system. From its credit ratings to expensive and sporadic health care, Americans are punished for poverty and rewarded for greed. This is on top of more virulent racism, police brutality, religious fundamentalism and other signs of an unequal and failing state. There are better systems that make it possible to live free and live well. The Netherlands happened to be where I ended up with a job after having lived abroad a while. I discovered quickly how much less stressful it is to live, work, buy a house, pay for health care, etc. Things are not perfect in the Netherlands, but there is less inequality and more opportunities for educated people.
Americans enjoy being cruel to one another. They participate in a cruel system, and this rubs off on how they interact with each other and “the other.” I got tired of it. It’s easier to be kind and charitable for good effect instead of satisfying one’s ego or dolling out “charity” to those considered “deserving” (almost always with flawed judgment, emphasis on judgment. Americans are very judgmental compared to many other countries.)
Lastly, I was exhausted by Americans’ ignorance of the rest of the world. The constant “American Dream” propaganda, being inundated with the country’s “greatness” despite its flaws being glaringly obvious, and otherwise being unable to see past America to other, more successful countries. The US takes that ignorance unto the international stage through its military and diplomatic thuggery, and that hadn’t done much to help the world.
I just didn’t want to be associated with America’s problem nor promote its “greatness.” It’s a right-wing country with ego problems, even if its people are from many different opinions and walks of life.

Well, those are very nice, modern countries where life is comfortable.
And if someone has options, one of these will definitely offer an alternative to the US. I considered all of these plus some when I moved on from the US, too.
I guess the main thing I was missing in the US was an element of depth. Having grown up in Europe, it just seemed to me that the whole American living experience was a bit like “just add water” - everything was quick and easy, colourful, and presented with a wide grin by some fabulously upbeat fella who wished you a nice day.
This was immensely fun for a while, but then it sank in that the whole world that was created there was somehow made from cardboard, and that all the flashy Buicks and particle board mansions came with a short expiry date and weren’t really based in much history or culture.
So it’s basically like living surrounded by cheap and flashy home improvement market grade stuff.
I kind of woke up when I visited Japan, and my sister in London.
That’s when it dawned on me that there was a whole dimension of interestingness that’s lacking in the US. And eventually, I left again, and have found my home in Europe anew. I suppose I had to leave first to appreciate what I had there to begin with.

The reality is the number of Americans becoming ex-pats isn’t growing per capita, just the overall number is increasing because the population base is growing. So the emigration from the US is pretty much like it has been for several decades (no big change).
So now that the “so many” part of the question has been addressed. Let’s look at what kind of people move from a Capitalistic Republic to a Socialist Democracy nation (alas Venezuela doesn’t fall into that category as the so-called patriots seem to always troll in these kind of posts).
Quality of life. This is a biggie for most since money isn’t everything and the mercenary style of an Ayn Rand inspired political and corporate attitude is too much for people willing to become foreigners and leave it all behind. Life is about living, not just about working. So those looking for a better balance of work and life outside of work will choose any of those countries (except for Japan).
Raising children. Ex-pats don’t have to worry about their kids being shot at school and don’t go through active shooter drills because unrestricted gun rights isn’t an issue outside the US. Add the better quality of education for elementary and secondary school, the kids can always go back to the US for University if they want, but the parents know their child will make it to adulthood without being shot at school, not something that can be guaranteed in the US.
Healthcare. The US healthcare is over priced and underperforming; you are more likely to die in the US healthcare system than any of the other countries. The US is the only of those countries where medical bankruptcy is a thing.
Depth and Worldview. Born in America (13th generation), but moved when I was five weeks old to the UK and later Germany, I grew up in Europe, so “returning” to the US for University made me more a foreigner than an American. I tried to integrate but the culture shock was massive. What I found hardest was the lack of depth and myopic worldview in the majority of people. Friendly like nowhere else in the world, but too hung up on religion, sex, politics, sports, and cults of personality.
