申請(qǐng)專(zhuān)業(yè)：UCL Banking and Digital Finance MSc

Intrigued by the discipline of finance where the learners and practitioners are dedicated to sensible decision making with uncertainties and challenges, and hoping to take advantage of my undergraduate academic background of information and computer science, I chose to specialise in Financial Mathematics after standing out in the fierce competition and being admitted to Peking University.

My non-stop effort at such a China’s top-ranked academic community combining academic rigour with innovative spirit enhanced my specialist knowledge in finance, and after graduation, I landed my job in CITIC Securities as a senior associate at the Fixed Income Division. Releasing my strengths in interdisciplinary studies of both computer science and finance, I primarily assisted in the workflow automation and settlements of over-the-counter options with programming methods to improve the accuracy and efficiency of the whole procedures; Meanwhile, I involved in liquidity risk management of bond repurchase and checked the qualifications of clients for bond repurchase strictly based on the company’s rules and regulations, ensuring our clients’ huge amount of capital flow, alerting and resolving the risks in advance.

Despite my well-acknowledged working performance in back-office support, I realised my real passion actually lies in the banking services and digital finance revolution. It is easily observed that advanced information technologies are bringing revolutionary changes to traditional banking services, such as the popularisation of Alipay and WeChat payment that are taking place of some banking businesses and even functioning more efficiently. The emerging cryptocurrencies have also pushed many banks to design their own cryptocurrencies, which reveals the tendency of banks’ transferring to digitalisation. I thus desire to release my advantages of interdisciplinary backgrounds of computing and finance in the banking industry. Moreover, at work, I noticed the increasing tendency of domestic financial institutions to cooperate with overseas counterparts in various forms of trading and cooperation, which made me realise the significance of developing my global vision and cross-cultural communication skills in preparation for my longer-term dedication to this ever-changing industry. Enthusiastic about the British culture and admiring one of the world’s financial hubs, London, I thus determined to pursue my second Master’s degree related to banking and digital finance studies in the UK.

To achieve my new academic goal, I am quite confident owing to my adequate preparations both academically and practically during my past few fulfilling years at university. When studying Information and Computing Science at undergraduate Beijing Jiaotong University, I enhanced my mathematical foundation and honed programming skills in such modules as Advanced Mathematics, Probability Theory and Mathematical Statistics, Operation Research, Optimised Theory, Data Structure, and C Language Programming, etc., keeping my 3-ranked GPA of 91% in my grade. Opting for such courses as International Finance and Investment Evaluation, I developed my basic knowledge framework of Finance and began to apply my programming skills to the financial and economic issues. After starting my advanced postgraduate studies of Financial Mathematics, I exposed myself to a wider range of topics, including financial statistics, derivative securities, and risk management, and delved more deeply into modelling-based Analysis, such as Copula Model, risk-neutral pricing , Multi-factor Model, Decision Tree Model, as well as Markov process.

為了實(shí)現(xiàn)我的新的學(xué)術(shù)目標(biāo)，我很有信心，因?yàn)樵谶^(guò)去幾年充實(shí)的大學(xué)生活中，我在學(xué)術(shù)上和實(shí)踐上都做了充分的準(zhǔn)備。在本科北京交通大學(xué)學(xué)習(xí)信息與計(jì)算科學(xué)時(shí)，我在高等數(shù)學(xué)、概率論與數(shù)理統(tǒng)計(jì)、運(yùn)籌學(xué)、最優(yōu)化理論、數(shù)據(jù)結(jié)構(gòu)、C語(yǔ)言編程等模塊中增強(qiáng)了自己的數(shù)學(xué)基礎(chǔ)，磨練了編程技能。我的平均績(jī)點(diǎn)保持在年級(jí)第三名91%。通過(guò)選擇國(guó)際金融和投資評(píng)估等課程，我發(fā)展了自己的金融基礎(chǔ)知識(shí)框架，并開(kāi)始將我的編程技能應(yīng)用于金融和經(jīng)濟(jì)問(wèn)題。在開(kāi)始我的金融數(shù)學(xué)高級(jí)研究生學(xué)習(xí)后，我接觸了更廣泛的主題，包括金融統(tǒng)計(jì)、衍生證券和風(fēng)險(xiǎn)管理，并更深入地研究了基于模型的分析，如Copula模型、風(fēng)險(xiǎn)中性定價(jià)、多因素模型、決策樹(shù)模型以及馬爾可夫過(guò)程。

Outside of the classroom, I would convert many of my competitions and internships into valuable experiences of improving my flexible knowledge application skills and developing other personal qualities conducive to my future financial practices. In the mathematical modelling competition in 2019, I, after realising the very near deadline of submission which posed huge challenges for our initial topic Analysis and our knowledge gap in aircraft lines design, led our team to focus on a new topic about the relationship between extreme cold weather and global warming, to which we could better transfer our industry attribution Analysis in our financial studies. Finally, with our modelling Analysis of the historical data of global average temperature, we identified the increasing temperatures in certain regions and tried to predict the trend of average global temperatures, and further discussed a primary reason for such an upward trend-the faster temperature changes in polar regions than those in the areas of low and middle latitudes after reading a lot of reference materials. Such a process stimulated my interest in solving real-life problems with our expertise, and keeping close cooperation with huge pressure from very limited preparational time and peer competition also developed my leadership, teamwork spirit and anti-pressure flexibility.

To test my knowledge application and hone all-around practical skills in the real work context, I made full use of my spare time to take internships in two securities companies, Guotai Junan Securities (from July to October 2019) and Dongxing Securities (from October to December 2017). From Analysing and testing several asset-allocation models and seeking after influential factors to their performance, to conducting industry Analysis based on multiple perspectives (e.g. geographical location, political support, managerial advantages, technological strengths, and capital etc.), I not only enhanced my understanding of various models to be applied in my future financial Analysis practices, but also deepened my insight into the performance of certain business entities and the whole industry. I thus grew much more interested in industry research, especially an in-depth investigation into emerging industries, in preparation for providing advanced consulting services to help with the business sustainability of more companies. Additionally, the regular communication with many other seasoned colleagues enabled me to gain more frontier knowledge on investment and business management, which indeed broadened my vision and strengthened my determination to contribute more to this marvellous field pushing the practitioner to step out of his/her comfort zone through life-long learning, exploration, and practices.

為了在真實(shí)的工作背景下檢驗(yàn)自己的知識(shí)應(yīng)用，磨練全方位的實(shí)踐技能，我充分利用業(yè)余時(shí)間在國(guó)泰君安證券(2019年7月至10月)和東興證券(2017年10月至12月)兩家證券公司實(shí)習(xí)。從分析和測(cè)試幾種資產(chǎn)配置模型并尋找其性能的影響因素，到基于多個(gè)角度(如地理位置、政治支持、管理優(yōu)勢(shì)、技術(shù)優(yōu)勢(shì)和資本等)進(jìn)行行業(yè)分析。不僅增強(qiáng)了我對(duì)未來(lái)財(cái)務(wù)分析實(shí)踐中要應(yīng)用的各種模型的理解，也加深了我對(duì)某些業(yè)務(wù)實(shí)體和整個(gè)行業(yè)業(yè)績(jī)的洞察。因此，我對(duì)行業(yè)研究越來(lái)越感興趣，特別是對(duì)新興行業(yè)的深入調(diào)查，為提供高級(jí)咨詢服務(wù)以幫助更多公司的業(yè)務(wù)可持續(xù)性做準(zhǔn)備。此外，與許多其他經(jīng)驗(yàn)豐富的同事的定期交流使我獲得了更多關(guān)于投資和企業(yè)管理的前沿知識(shí)，這確實(shí)拓寬了我的視野，堅(jiān)定了我為這一奇妙領(lǐng)域做出更多貢獻(xiàn)的決心，推動(dòng)從業(yè)者通過(guò)終身學(xué)習(xí)、探索和實(shí)踐走出他/她的舒適區(qū)。

Despite my strong academic passion, I have long been pursuing all-around self-improvement and would always love to explore new fields in some non-academic activities. For example, I once formed a debating team to take part in the debating competition of my school in 2014, and our collective preparation for the topic of whether paper-based reading should be replaced by electronic books pushed me to search information extensively and form my propositions with abundant case Analyses and logical deduction. Our team discussion and debating rehearsal enhanced my public speaking skills a lot as well, and my quick response to the opponents’ statement and doubt along with my logical deduction also won me the title of the Best Debater. In the patriotism-themed micro-film shooting project, I led my crew to design the script, shoot and edit the video; to seek after the best artistic effect and meanwhile, relieve the working pressure of my crew, I borrowed advanced equipment for video shooting and editing, and took initiatives to master the editing software within only two days in order to facilitate the subtitling team’s work progression. Our collective endeavour was finally awarded the Second Prize, which was also a valuable recognition of my leadership that contributed to the overall work coordination and efficiency improvement.

盡管我有強(qiáng)烈的學(xué)術(shù)熱情，但我一直追求全面的自我完善，并總是喜歡在一些非學(xué)術(shù)活動(dòng)中探索新的領(lǐng)域。比如我曾經(jīng)組建過(guò)一個(gè)辯論隊(duì)參加2014年我所在學(xué)校的辯論賽，我們對(duì)紙質(zhì)閱讀是否應(yīng)該被電子書(shū)取代這個(gè)話題的集體備考，促使我廣泛搜索資料，以豐富的案例分析和邏輯演繹形成我的命題。我們的小組討論和辯論排練也提高了我的公共演講技能，我對(duì)對(duì)手的陳述和質(zhì)疑的快速反應(yīng)以及我的邏輯推理也為我贏得了最佳辯手的稱(chēng)號(hào)。在愛(ài)國(guó)主義題材的微電影拍攝項(xiàng)目中，我?guī)ьI(lǐng)我的劇組設(shè)計(jì)劇本、拍攝、剪輯視頻；為了追求最佳的藝術(shù)效果，同時(shí)減輕我的工作人員的工作壓力，我借用了先進(jìn)的視頻拍攝和編輯設(shè)備，并主動(dòng)在兩天內(nèi)掌握了編輯軟件，以促進(jìn)字幕團(tuán)隊(duì)的工作進(jìn)展。我們的集體努力最終獲得了二等獎(jiǎng)，這也是對(duì)我的領(lǐng)導(dǎo)能力的寶貴認(rèn)可，我的領(lǐng)導(dǎo)能力為整體工作協(xié)調(diào)和效率提高做出了貢獻(xiàn)。

Recalling these impressive moments, I am glad to find myself travel this far, and I expect to travel farther. To scale a new height on my next-stage academic journey and strive for my career aspirations, I would like to study in the Banking and Digital Finance MSc programme at my dream university-the University College London (UCL), one of the world’s top-ranked universities gathering elite faculty teams, scholars and practitioners, along with vibrant and intelligent student cohort. As the courses offered by this esteemed programme are both highly applied and research-driven, they are believed to expose me to the most innovative aspects of digital finance and enhance my Analytical foundation of the finance and banking industry. Such a course aim indeed matches my needs and expectations! Furthermore, I am quite interested in such core modules as Financial Analytics and Machine Learning, Big Data in Quantitative Finance, and Finance and Artificial Intelligence, which involve the frontier knowledge and technologies in digital finance and will develop my specialist knowledge and professional skills to contribute to the digitalisation of financial products and banking services at my future position. I believe my postgraduate studies will be a vital step towards this goal, and I sincerely would like to invite UCL as my advisor!

本文內(nèi)容詳實(shí)，基本上學(xué)術(shù)、科研、實(shí)習(xí)都介紹到了。另外還介紹了自己的跨學(xué)科研究項(xiàng)目以及課外活動(dòng)如參加辯論，微電影拍攝，編輯視頻等等。從而突出了自己不是一個(gè)書(shū)呆子，而是一個(gè)多面手，這樣的人更容易獲得學(xué)校的青睞。

另外，本文顯示了作者的目標(biāo)明確，本科就學(xué)習(xí)了金融相關(guān)的專(zhuān)業(yè)，實(shí)習(xí)也是在國(guó)泰君安證券和東興證券兩家證券公司完成的，所以其未來(lái)職業(yè)目標(biāo)也是金融產(chǎn)品和銀行服務(wù)的數(shù)字化方面。相比于朝三暮四的申請(qǐng)者，這樣目標(biāo)明確、知道自己想要什么的申請(qǐng)者更容易受到學(xué)校的認(rèn)可。
