在講“一帶一路”的英文翻譯之前，我們得知道什么是“一帶一路”。

“一帶一路”（The Belt and Road，縮寫B&R）是“絲綢之路經(jīng)濟帶”和“21世紀海上絲綢之路”的簡稱，2013年9月和10月由中國國家主席習近平分別提出建設“新絲綢之路經(jīng)濟帶”和“21世紀海上絲綢之路”的合作倡議。

依靠中國與有關(guān)國家既有的雙多邊機制，借助既有的、行之有效的區(qū)域合作平臺，一帶一路旨在借用古代絲綢之路的歷史符號，高舉和平發(fā)展的旗幟，積極發(fā)展與沿線國家的經(jīng)濟合作伙伴關(guān)系，共同打造政治互信、經(jīng)濟融合、文化包容的利益共同體、命運共同體和責任共同體。

2015年9月23日，據(jù)國家發(fā)改委消息，國家發(fā)展改革委會同外交部、商務部等部門對“一帶一路”英文譯法進行了規(guī)范。

一、在對外公文中，統(tǒng)一將“絲綢之路經(jīng)濟帶和21世紀海上絲綢之路”的英文全稱譯為“the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st-Century Maritime Silk Road”，“一帶一路”簡稱譯為“the Belt and Road”，英文縮寫用“B&R”。

二、“倡議”一詞譯為“initiative”，且使用單數(shù)。不使用“strategy”、“project”、“program”、“agenda”等措辭。

三、考慮到“一帶一路”倡議一詞出現(xiàn)頻率較高，在非正式場合，除首次出現(xiàn)時使用英文全稱譯文外，其簡稱譯法可視情況靈活處理，除可使用“the Belt and Road Initiative”外，也可視情使用“the land and maritime Silk Road initiative”。其他譯法不建議使用。
