Lost Soul Silver

As a Pokémon creepypasta fan, one of my favorite story is "Lost Silver". I've also tried the fan-made version, I must say, that's almost perfect. I always thought that?it was only a story, until something like this happened to me. Or rather, I became a “creepypasta player”.

It all started?since?8 years ago (P.S. about 2013, when I read some Pokémon Creepypastas that scared me a lot back then), I haven't been a Pokémon?player?for long. I've only played?the?game?of the first three generations.?At that time, I didn't even know what is ROM hack. Somehow, I suddenly want to try the fourth generation?of?Pokémon games, So I decided to play the "remastered version" of Pokémon Silver. which means, Soul Silver. It's a bit dramatic, At that time, I was always thinking about how to get the?Soul Silver cartridge, and?one day?I found “it”?next to a trash can near my house.

The box covered with badly abrasions.?Lugia was scrawled by?a?marking?pen that made it almost unrecognizable, there's not?too?much problem inside?the box but a hand writing note in it: "No, don't play with it, this is a torture tool made by a madman. Don't pick it up again." That's what the note says. but curiosity drives me to want to know more about its game content. "Could it be a prank by the original owner?" I had to say, I'm kinda regret to?pick it up.

It was a weekend, and I took the box back home without telling my family.?I don't want them to know that I picked up "a piece of garbage" when I was outside.?I went back to my room, put the Soul Silver cartridge?into the DS and started the game. The opening animation is normal, the background music is normal. But there is already a file?in the game. The player's name is Ethan, saved in Violet City but didn't caught?any Pokémon.?I tried to choose "New Game", but it didn't work at all.The game?forced me to start the game with that?weird?file.

After entering the game, my character standing?in front of the entrance to the Sprout Tower, and I turned around?to?made?the character walking around?in?Violet City for a while. I noticed that the game graphics were slightly dark, without any NPCs on the road. Even the way?out of Violet City was blocked. And all the doors are as inaccessible as if they were locked, including shop and Pokémon Center. The game seemed to be deliberately guiding?me into the Sprout Tower, so I had?no choice but went inside.

There was no one in the tower either, and I couldn't get out of here?after I came in. So I tried to walk towards the top of the tower. As I moved the character,?I heard a tone, so I checked?the lower screen, then I found?the "Pokémon" button?appeared. I switched?on that button to view my team, and then I was a little frightened.

The team were 6?Unowns, which only have Level 5 and 1 HP. I?checked?at them in order, and their letters make up "ESCAPE". Ironically, I had no way to escape. At this time, I understood the meaning of the note, this cartridge?just?like the "Lost Silver" in the story, which was maliciously modified and thrown to somewhere to tease others. I reached the top of the tower, and then found a huge hole in the pillar, and at this point the ladder for return disappeared. I was mentally prepared, that empty hole must be the entrance to the blood-red room.

I controlled the character to get?inside, and it just what I?thought. But compared to Lost Silver, Ethan has a faint light?around him, just like he didn't used?flash in the dark zone. I walked around the blood-red room, trying to find something, but only saw some crimson words in the corner of the room, and nothing else to investigate. These words are "REBORN" , "REPLACE", and "ETERNAL". So far the team haven't been changed, it's still composed of six Unowns?that make up the word "Escape".

Below the blood-red room there is a road about two blocks wide. As I go farther, the room gradually becomes brighter. In my mind, the road was longer than the fan-made version of Lost Silver, I even pressed the B button?to let him running, but it still spends me almost a minute to reaching the end. I tried to investigate the wall at the bottom, but just a dialog box popped up with "prey" on it. And choices?were?only YES and NO. But YES is?not selectable.

I selected NO 4?times in a row, and then Ethan's sprite spun a few times and moved out of the screen. Then I found out that the game's scene had changed to?outside of the Mt.Silver, but it was?pale. The inner?layout?was same as the Silver Version,?and the graphic is completely NDS-like,?I don't need to use flash to light the cave.

Reaching the depths of the cave, there was supposed to be Red, but standing another person. His sprite on the map without limbs or color, and his eyes look very hollow. I tried to get closer to him, but I was pulled into the fight. The background is pitch black, without any music. His image looks even more horrible when enlarged.

The opponent sent out a shiny, half Celebi, but its level was as high as 255 with no cry. This simply can't happen. Before I could react, Ethan sent out a Cyndaquil. It named "CRY". Level 0, with 0/0 health. Its image has no iconic back flame, and?seems?like It’s crying. I checked the team at this point and found that the rest?5?Pokémons?were fainted Unowns. Their word is "DEATH". I tried to fight, but when I pressed the battle button it just popped up a text with the words "CRY can't move". Then the opponent's Celebi used Perish Song.

For the next three turns I couldn't do any active because I couldn't move, and my opponent's sprite kept fading in and out after each turn, with only silence. till three turns were over, Celebi's health is cut out the screen, just like some game glitches. My Cyndaquil also started decreasing the health, eventually reaching -255/0. The game suddenly began?to emit a sharp and piercing noise that lasts for 5 seconds, and then the Cyndaquil disappears without any animation on the screen, the text box told?me that it's dead.

The opponent's image appeared?again from the right side of the screen, now he has arms. After pressing A to skip a bunch of blank texts, I lost the battle with "whited out". When the screen lights up again, my game character is in the Pokémon Center. There is no one here, but the?color and brightness were normal. I noticed something was wrong with Ethan,?so?I opened the trainer card to check him out,?he had lost his?arms, and it looked like his arms had been violently pulled off, and now he's bleeding.?Unowns has changed again, this time is the word "BELONG".

I walked out of the Pokémon Center, and outside was pale Goldenrod City. There is still no exit here, there has?NPCs, but they’re all?faceless. Whenever I talk to them, an red eye Unown appears, and then the NPC disappears. After I finished my last conversation, my character spinning again just like?he?used?escape rope, and then he returned to the?front of?pokémon center in Goldenrod City. Now the?whole city turned to purple, and I had to keep going forward to talk to the faceless NPCs?I had met before. But this time these?Unowns has order. They form the phrase: "I NEVER MEET YOU". Then I was forced into battle again.

It was still pitch black with was no music, but this time the person who standing opposite was exactly same as himself on the trainer card, he seemed upset?and his arms was gone. Neither side sent pokémon out during?this battle, and the battle buttons could only allowed my character?to "use" to Take Down, and the opponent would only use the Struggle to attack me. but he only hit with the recoil. There is no doubt that Ethan on the opposite ran out of health first, but then he attacked me with the Destiny Bond.?Finally,?two people disappeared from the screen one after another.

After the battle, I was teleported to the Sprout Tower. The image on the trainer card is even more damaged, Ethan has lost his legs, he's crying. There's also no animation effect while i?walking on the map. I checked the team again,?at the end there was a 100 level shiny Celebi. It looks like cut in half?as well, it?named "MYSELF". The rest were?still Unowns. They are also shiny, and the word is "SLAIN". Next I’ll?did the same thing again, I walked to the top of the tower?then get?into the hollow pillars, and returned to the end of the corridor. I tried to check?the wall again, but this time, both selections?were YES.

I got no choice, so I pressed the A key. Then the bright red corridor slowly darkened, and the pale man?who had been seen earlier at MT.Silver appeared and slowly approached from behind. after that, another battle immediately started. I noticed that the person?with the hollow eyes now had limbs, and Ethan, which I controlled, had lost limbs after two battles.

"... Sent out PLEASE!" It’s?a L255 Typhlosion without?face and lower limbs.?Then?I?sent out?that?half shiny Celebi, even though I didn't set it as?the first pokémon. Due to the level, Typhlosion's attack faster. It used Dream Eater to attack Celebi, but nothing happened.

"MYSELF used Perish Song!" I tried to attack his Typhlosion with my only move, and the next three turns were all the same, and after all the turn was exhausted again, both Pokémon on the screen were ran out?of?health. But the battle was not over.

"PLEASE! Used Pain Split!" Celebi made a shrill noise like the previous Cyndaquil, then died. The background turned to?dazzling pure red. After a while, the screen went completely dark. I kept pressing the?arrow keys, even though I wasn't sure whether?it works.

The game pops up a text box, and I pressed the A key to close it. Now I'm surely believe that the battle?has?over and?now?I'm in a completely dark place. I checked the team, there’s nothing left. The trainer card is also completely blank. Next whenever I control any?arrow keys?for a while, the game will pop up a text box.

"Why?"

After these text were showed, no matter how I press the buttons, nothing will pop up again. I think it was probably the game has?reached its final moments. So I checked the trainer card?again. Ethan lost his color this time, his eyes, and even his name was blank. His eye were hollow, while?bleeding. Unowns in the team turned?into fainted "IMDEAD".

The screen light up again after a long time, and it was like in GBC, with Ethan standing in the middle of the tombstone group without limbs and eyes, and could no longer make him move. I tried to restart the game, it worked. When I re-entered the game, it turned black again. This time there’s not even a menu on the lower screen. After a long time, the game popped up a text box, it's also has GBC style. And the interval?time?between each letter popping up was?extremely long.

After these text were shown, my lower screen is available again. I checked my team for the last time, there was still nothing. But the Trainer Card became very different: his name changed from Ethan to GOLD, the costumes of the characters were the same as Gold and Silver Version, he did not lose any part of his body, his pupils were not gold or blue, it was crimson. With a?weird?smile. The money was maximized, the game time became 999:59, and 16 badges for no reason.

The person in this trainer card neither GOLD, nor Ethan who was killed before. GOLD didn't change the fate of death in lost silver, but his obsession not to be forgotten by the world was preserved,?and transformed into a grudge that was exactly the same as GOLD's appearance. It thought that the way not to be forgotten by the world was?reanimate in?the new generation, so it killed Ethan and replaced his?“rightful?place”,?then back in the world of the fourth generation. This so-called GOLD is nothing more than an empty shell.

I turned the game off and put the cartridge?back in the box, then sealed it.?To this day, I can't remember where did I put it. Since that day, I had?rarely played the remake version.
