周興和這時(shí)確是一無(wú)所有，但他卻擁有別人沒有的更大財(cái)富，那就是——信譽(yù)和韌性。1990年5月，周興和意外地從《中國(guó)專利報(bào)》上看到，這年6月將在北京舉辦中國(guó)專利博覽會(huì)的消息后，他與妻子劉鳳瓊從親戚朋友和銀行處借貸10萬(wàn)塊錢，天南海北地考察起市場(chǎng)和產(chǎn)品來(lái)。

1990年6月，周興和與妻子在各地考察后，來(lái)到北京參加專利博覽會(huì)。毋庸諱言，周興和與妻子在這次考察中，他們?cè)谝庾R(shí)、觀念、習(xí)慣、素養(yǎng)等方面的差異，已經(jīng)明顯暴露出來(lái)。在44天的考察時(shí)間里，他們有30多天在鬧矛盾鬧糾紛，弄得兩人的心情都很糟糕。劉鳳瓊出于一個(gè)家庭主婦過(guò)日子的心理，為節(jié)約每一分錢，他拉著周興和，每天要花大量的時(shí)間和精力去尋最便宜的旅館，去找最便宜的飯菜，去尋最便宜的公交車；而周興和每到一個(gè)地方，則心急如焚如饑似渴地想利用更多的時(shí)間和精力來(lái)考察項(xiàng)目。由于價(jià)值觀念與考察目的不同，兩人就難免不時(shí)發(fā)生分歧和摩擦。久而久之，不可避免地在各自心里生出隔閡來(lái)。

北京博覽會(huì)，真是別開生面熱鬧非凡，黃的白的黑的各種膚色的人摩肩接踵，各種發(fā)明專利琳瑯滿目，讓人眼花繚亂目不暇接。在會(huì)議現(xiàn)場(chǎng)，周興和親眼見到美國(guó)一家公司，花了4000萬(wàn)元人民幣買走一項(xiàng)高科技專利后，在大發(fā)感慨受到啟發(fā)之余，他也躍躍欲試起來(lái)。他根據(jù)自身的情況，在仔細(xì)查看和對(duì)比多項(xiàng)發(fā)明專利后，毅然決定花8萬(wàn)元買下幾項(xiàng)實(shí)用建筑材料的專利！
