Further to your instruction dated? ? requesting us to search for the causes for the defects noted in the works, we are writing to confirm that this has been done and we have to advise as follows:

The search and investigation, under the directions of the Engineer, have shown that the defects reported to us are attributed neither to poor workmanship nor the use of defective materials in the works. Therefore, we request that the costs which we have incurred for such search be reimbursed to us.
