After dinner, we all had green tea and played cards in groups of four. Soraya and I played with Sharif and Suzy on the coffee table, next to the couch where Baba lay under a wool blanket. He watched me joking with Sharif, watched Soraya and me lacing our fingers together, watched me push back a loose curl of her hair. I could see his internal smile, as wide as the skies of Kabul on nights when the poplars shivered and the sound of crickets swelled in the gardens.?

晚飯后我們一邊喝綠茶，一邊四個(gè)人湊在一起打牌。Soraya和我一組，Sharif和Suzy一組，在咖啡桌子上面打。Baba就在旁邊的長(zhǎng)沙發(fā)上躺著，用羊毛毯子蓋著身子。他看著我和Sharif開(kāi)玩笑，看著Soraya和我手指交織在一起，看著我將她一縷垂下來(lái)的頭發(fā)往后順。我能夠看到他內(nèi)心的微笑，和Kabul的夜空一樣寬廣——楊樹(shù)窸窸窣窣顫抖著，蟋蟀的聲音充滿(mǎn)了整個(gè)菜園。
