Five days after the last gig in Australia, Tim flew to Miami, to perform once again at the Ultra Music Festival. Compared to four years earlier, when Tim was in town for the first time and played at Laidback Luke’s party, the United States was a completely different musical landscape.

Dutch Afrojack and Hardwell were big stars by now. The fact that the business magazine Forbes had started publishing an annual list of the world’s highest paid DJs was telling. According to the magazine, Ti?sto, who led the pack, could now make just over $250,000 for each gig.

The scope of the scene was also felt here in Miami, where Ultra had booked over three hundred artists. Tim and Arash had discussed how they would succeed in standing out in such an enormous context. It required something that was on the verge of provocative – then even those who were not already devoted fans of house music would hear about the upcoming album.

Guitarist Mike Einziger had brought the drummer and bassist with him from his rock band, which meant that almost half of Incubus was present. That was big enough in and of itself. Einziger’s fiancée Ann Marie Calhoun would play the banjo and violin. In addition, Mac Davis, Audra Mae, Dan Tyminski and Aloe Blacc had travelled here. A motley and odd gang, but that was the whole point.

Internally, Sundin’s star rose fast, he had become known as the Swede who knew what the teens wanted.
