“We are back.” Those were the rousing words of Maverick Vi?ales (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP) straight after he performed arguably his best premier class performance to date to claim victory at the 2021 Barwa Grand Prix of Qatar. And he’s not wrong.

Through the first sector, Vi?ales was P9. From there, previously, it was probably game over in terms of a decent points haul for Yamaha as battling in a pack with different machines is something that has been a huge weak point in the last couple of seasons. So for Vi?ales to then pick each rider in front of him off, not look uncomfortable doing so, and going on to win the race in commanding fashion was simply stunning.

He’s now a husband and a father to be. A stress-free Vi?ales is obviously a very, very quick Vi?ales.
