There are electronic producers solelyinterested in offering an antidote to readily available pop music, then thereare those who'd rather take a chance reflecting contemporary radio sounds intheir own image. Much in the same way that Aphex Twin's"Windowlicker" mined late-1990s hip-hop and R&B to make cruisingin the California sun sound more like pole dancing on its surface, anonymousproducer SOPHIE refracts EDM, Trap, and chirpy K-pop through a prism offunhouse mirrors. The Londoner's latest dispatch skews even further to the leftof his breakout "Bipp", leaving "Hard" stranded somewherebetween the UK garage perversions of "Do You Know Squarepusher" andKaty Perry's über-au courant "This is How We Do".
這位倫敦制作人的最新作品甚至比他的突破性作品“Bipp”更左,使“Hard”成為介于那個英國車庫變態(tài)的“Do You Know Squarepusher”和Katy Perry的“This is How We Do”之間的存在。
As its title implies, "Hard" iscold and jagged in comparison to previous singles—"Lemonade", theA-side of SOPHIE's new Numbers 12", is far more sugary and gelatinous withits giddy dislocations. For all of its shuddering, metallic beats andrazor-sharp sawtooth synths, though, "Hard" gleams with intensitywhen the light hits it just right. Crystalline bells occasionally add a hint ofsparkle, and just before the flurry of mutated meta-pop wraps up, a set ofscampering trance synths swell into the mix as a cheeky reminder that—even whensounding his most serious—SOPHIE always wants to have fun with us.
