Damage to the environment is an inevitable consequence of the improvement in the standard of living .

To what extent do you agree or disagree?

The late 20th has witnessed tremendous economic development with a consequence of environmental damage to a large extent. On the one hand ,it is inevitable for the sake of the rising standard of our life ;on the other ,it is the human beings ‘ hubris 傲慢that leads to the devastation.

Human beings have had a profound effect on the environment ,especially since the time of the Industrial Revolution , when natural resources began to be over used as well as toxic emissions released into the air in huge quantities . Besides ,the explosive growth of global population aggravates the exploitation of resources as for mines, water and fossil fuels .An array of jobs being created and unprecedented scientific breakthroughs made, notwithstanding, and thus the well-being of global citizens has surged ,the environment has factually being struck in a manner that hospitals are overwhelmed with respiratory patients due to poor air quality and the accelerating situation of global warming in correlation with climate change. At the first beginning , people acclaimed the achievements we did on our mother land ; soon ,the earth takes revenge on humans as if we were its enemies

We do live a more advanced life nowadays compared to that in the past , and this results in an illusion for human race that we are omnipotent無所不能的 .Some countries pursue high speed of economic development without considering how seriously the damage it carves on the earth; some businesses undermine the environment in order to earn profit; individuals who have not raised the awareness of environmental protection take wasting resources for granted ,not to mention the active involvement in a way of sustainable life style. All these behaviors come from the ignorant and arrogant attitudes ; if not changing from the bottom ,the damaging will continue till one day when we could not stand .

Therefore, promoting sustainable development presents a utilitarian solution for humans and we would rather preserve our environment than leaving a barren place for our next generations. In the long run , saving our world may be far cheaper than immigrating to other planets .
