二、原文

Captain Ben Fawcett has bought an unusual taxi and has begun a new service.The 'taxi' is a small Swiss aeroplane called a 'Pilatus Porter'. This wonderful plane can carry seven passengers. The most surprising thing about it, however, is that it can land anywhere: on snow, water, or even on a ploughed field. Captain Fawcett's first passenger was a doctor who flew from Birmingham to a lonely village in the Welsh mountains. Since then, Captain Fawcett has flown passengers to many unusual places. Once he landed on the roof of a block of flats and on another occasion, he landed in a deserted car park. Captain Fawcett has just refused a strange request from a businessman. The man wanted to fly to Rockall, a lonely island in the Atlantic Ocean, but Captain Fawcett did not take him because the trip was too dangerous.

7、表語從句

1）表語從句通常置于系統(tǒng)詞尤其是is后面

2)名詞reason后面的表語從句一般用that而不用because

The reason (why) he was dismissed is that he was careless and irresponsible. 他被解雇的原因是因為他的粗心和不負(fù)責(zé)任

8、分詞做定語

現(xiàn)在分詞和過去分詞都可以做定語，相當(dāng)于一個對應(yīng)的定語從句

1) 單個動詞的現(xiàn)在分詞和過去分詞作定語，一般放在被修飾的名詞前面，可替換成定語從句

a broken up = a cup which has broken before

boiled water = water that has been boiled

falling leaves = leaves that are falling

the barking dog = the dog that is barking

2)過去分詞 left, questioned 通常作后置定語

This the the only food left.

The people questioned are two high students.

3)有些過去分詞像concerned, given, involve, used 等既能作前置定語也能作后置定語,但含義不同

I noticed a concerned look in his eyes. 關(guān)切的

All parents concerned will be present. 有關(guān)的

4)分詞短語作定語，可替換為定語從句

The man standing at the gate is my teacher = The man who is standing at the gate is my teacher.

5)現(xiàn)在分詞作定語有兩種含義

①表示名詞的一種特點(diǎn)，相當(dāng)于定語從句的主動的一般時態(tài)

flying fishes = fishes that can fly

a puzzling problem = a problem that puzzles people

②表示動作正在進(jìn)行，相當(dāng)于定語從句的主動進(jìn)行時態(tài)

falling leaves = leaves that are falling.

the rising sun = the sun that is rising

6)過去分詞作定語的兩種含義

①及物動詞的過去分詞表示的是被動關(guān)系，相當(dāng)于定語從句的被動，一般或完成時態(tài)（通常表被動，一般被動或者被動完成時）

a deserted car park = a car park which has been deserted

a stolen car = a car which was stolen

②不及物動詞的過去分詞作定語表示動作已經(jīng)完成，不表示被動關(guān)系，相當(dāng)于定語從句的主動完成時態(tài)（偶爾表示主動完成時）

fallen leaves = leaves that have fallen

a married man = a man that has married.
