It?was?a?sudden?shake?that?forced?Shi?Han?out?of?his?dream. He?was?at?the?top?of?his?rage?initially,?but?based?on?his?last bit?of?conscious he?would?recall?that?there?was?no?one?else in?the?dorm,?and?as?a?result?of?which,?he?wasn’t?wakened?by someone?else?for?sure.?Around?him?was?deadly?silence.
Turning?to?another?side?and?opening?a?thin?line?with his?eyes, he?touched?to?light?the?clock?on?his?bedside?with?the?least amount?of?energy. Direct, strong?light?went straight into?his?eyes,?but he?still?felt?uncomfortable.?It?was?2:18?a.m..
He?couldn’t?remember?since?when?had?he?been?called "KingstoneJr."; somehow, from?a?certain?time, he?was?nicknamed "Kingstone?Jr." “Kingstone"?was?an?excellent?graduate?several years?ago, who?was from?the?same?junior?high?school?and?had?secured?Peking University?after?winning?an?IMO?gold?medal.?Shi?Han?didn’t consider himself?to?be?such?a?genius; he?just?attended?each lesson seriously,?and?his?academic?performance?was?far?worse than?those?who?were?at?the?top?of?the?whole?school.?But?for?some reason, others?placed?high?expectations?on?him. Shi?Han?turned?himself?again?to?continue?his?sleep, but?that sense?of?shaking?was?increasingly?strong?and?clear.He?sat?unimpatiently,head?down,eyes?chosed,but?his?feet?which?touched the?floor?indicated?that it was shaking too.?The?immediate?reaction cleared?up?the?haze?in?his?brain,?and?he?came?to?a?reasonable conclusion?at?once-maybe?an?earthquake.
Having?no?time?to?put?on?his?shoes, he?kicked?the?door?open and?struggled?to?the?nearest?stairs?in?loose?pajamas.?The?shaking was?not?that?strong, and?the?starry?night sky?after?midnight gently?gave?off?a?harmony?of?light. Looking?over?at?the?completely empty?dormitory, he?found?bright-white?powder?on?the?wall gliding?down?through?the?darkness.
Why?had?he?determined?to?take?part?in?the?Olympiad??He?was sure?he?wasn’t?that?bad,?yet?that?he?could?never?reach?the?peak. He?had?witnessed?his?companions?left?one?by?one, and?had?a thought of?quitting. "But?why?have?you?carried?it?through?till?the?present?” Days?ago,a?girl?from?a?lawer?grade?asked?him?this?childish?question with?twinkling?eyes?after?a?talk?with?him.
He?gave?himself?a?cold?smile.?Until?this?point,?with?so?much time?and?effort?devoted, only to quit?it like?an?idiot?
The?sense?of?shaking?was?clearly?more?violent?on?the?stairs. His?dorm?was?at?the?6th?floor, so?he?estimated?that?he?couldn’t escape?safely?and?regularly.?Then?he?decided?to?climb?onto?the roof?through?the?stairs?nearby.?Perhaps?he?was?braver?than?usual because?there?was?no?one?else?on?campus, and?door?to?the?roof top had?always?been?closed; not?a?single?person?had?climbed?over it.?He?would?rather?die?in?lis?dorm?than?do?such?crazy things if?it?was?an?ordinary?day.

When?Shi?Han?was?breathing?heavily?on?the?rooftop?which?was?covered with?stone?pieces,?he?could?sense?that?the?platform?beneath?him was?also?leaning.?He?struggled?to?his?feet, and?judged?that?the building?was?falling?towards?the?north.?That?was?lucky,?for?the fact?that?the?dormitory?building?was?not?only?the?northest?one?but also?the?tallest?one?in?the?school,?thus?he?didn’t have to worry?about?the tall?buildings?nearby?falling?upon?him.?Bearing?the?unbearable?pain, he?dragged?himself?forward?onto?a?sheld.?From?the?bottom?of his?feet?came?the?realistic?touching?of?stones. A?domitory?building?with?a?destroyed?appearance, which?might have?buried?massive?amounts?of?secrets?and?secret?thoughts?of adolescent teenagers. Stars?no?longer?shone,?and?the?ground?no?longer shook. Such a short-lasting earthquake brought about such disastrous outcomes. Looking around, there was dead-like silence, but?there?might?be?more?and?more?painful?cries?from?beneath the?surface, arising?increasing?horror.?Not?a?single?tall?building anymore,?but?plain-like?ruins, and?he, on?top?of?which?stood. Waves?of?winds?rushed?beside?him,?and?his?white?loose?pajamas.
He?suddenly?felt?his?cold?bare?feet,?which?might?be?bleeding due?to?a?broken?piece. A?grey?shadow?rose?in?the?eastern?part of?the?sky;?it?would?be?the sun rise.?From?farther?places?came?the sound?of?ambulances.
Something?flashed?through?Shi?Han’s?mind.?He?bent?down slowly; slowly?on?top?of?the?ruins.

Suddenly?he?burst out into heartfelt laughter, with?his?painful?stomach and?tears flew?out?from?his?eyes; his?face?reddened?and?his?breath?became uneasy;?with?his?spasmodic?figure?falling?onto?the?ground of?the ruins. Ambulances?drove?past?the?school?gate,?with?deafening?sound completely?covering?Shi?Han’s?laughter; even himself?couldn’t?recognize what?he?was?laughing?about.
