國內(nèi)各類英語考試，英語作文字?jǐn)?shù)要求一般不超過300字，而且分值所占比重較低，

所以沒有太多的學(xué)生，包括老師去關(guān)注作文的質(zhì)量。在作文批改者眼里，只要沒有

語法錯誤，句子結(jié)構(gòu)基本正確，就是一篇好作文。

事實上，真正的英語作文不是這么回事，就拿漢語作文考試來說，字?jǐn)?shù)一般不

少于600字，大學(xué)生英語作文競賽，字?jǐn)?shù)不少于600字。因為字?jǐn)?shù)少了，很難說清

自己的觀點。當(dāng)英語作文字?jǐn)?shù)要求達(dá)到600字以上后， 作者必須要關(guān)注段落之間，

句子之間的過渡技巧以及句子是否符合

邏輯，時間允許的話，還要斟酌用詞是否恰當(dāng)。語法及句子結(jié)構(gòu)只是一個基本要求，

也就是說，國內(nèi)目前英語寫作要求，包括高校的英語專業(yè)，仍處于低級階段。

問題得到控制。

第一句，按照英語邏輯，“after years of effort”修飾“said”, 意思就是經(jīng)過多年的努力

后，高才說這句話。順序調(diào)整以后，“after years of effort”修飾后面的謂語“has been

brought under control...”。

思考題：

Except for the shoe shining job, I was never paid for any work I did at the resturant.
