CTE-360 Thermal Expansion Tester
The CTE-360 measures thermal expansion coefficients on wide range of materials over a temperature range of -25°C to 100°C. ? Although intended primarily for the study of materials used in electronic packaging applications, it can be used on virtually any solid, gel, paste, or viscous liquid over this temperature range.
Instruments for measuring? linear and volumetric thermal expansion coefficients are also known as “dilatometers”. ?The Analysis Tech CTE-360 Tester uses ASTM D696, specifically implemented for?electronic packaging materials. ?The?software package,?WinCTE,?is included with the tester and offers?a?simple user-interface for test control, data collection/analysis, and presentation features. ? CTE?accuracy tolerances typically range from ±2% to ±8% ?although all data is automatically appended with individually computed?tolerances. ?The CTE-360 Tester is an economical, self-contained, solid-state, standalone unit that requires no external chiller or refrigeration equipment.

Solid material test-samples are tested by directly inserting them into the cylindrical test chamber. ?They can be cylindrical or polygonal with maximum cross sectional dimension of 0.5 inches (12.5 mm) ?to fit into the test chamber. ?The nominal recommended sample length is 2 inches (50 mm) although this length is not critical and shorter samples can be used.
Other material types may require specific sample holders: ?solid sheet-like materials?are tested using the?Thin?Sample Holder?which measures thermal expansion in the XY (in-plane) direction. Viscous liquid materials, including phase change materials, are tested in the?Liquid Sample Holder?which includes disposable/reusable containment tubes.

The Analysis Tech CTE-360 Tester does not require any external coolant or temperature forcing equipment. The included control software?WinCTE?runs on any PC or lap top with USB interface and Windows 7 or higher operating system.
Data is recorded in text files, Excel format files, and a variety of graphical data plots.
