5. Brazil: Have fun with no fear of infringing politically correct stigmas. See a place where the diversity is shown on each person and not on each race. Laugh a lot, befriend strangers and understand what perfect bodies look like. Indulge yourself at carnival like if there was no tomorrow. Go to parties every single day. Preferably die after visiting Brazil so you go to heaven (or hell) with a smile on your face.

4. Austria
Castles, and mountains in the heart of Europe. Clean air. Beautiful scenery. Not a typical “tourist” destination with tourist traps, it''s real Europe. If you''ve never been to Europe before, and want a good taste of the continent, go to Austria.
5. California, America.
No list would be complete without at least a bit of America. California has some of the most famous cities on earth, and some of the most beautiful scenery. On a single holiday you could go to San Francisco, LA, drive the Pacific highway, see the incredible sequoia trees, then finish the trip off with a debaucherous weekend in the neighbouring state of Nevada by going to Las Vegas, and seeing the Hoover dam on the way. All those amazing famous places are completely different and you can see them all on a 2 week holiday.

India is so rich in diversity of culture, food, people and geography. You have the mountains up north and the beaches down south. You have delicious spicy food to flatbreads and naans. You have Bollywood, you have Taj Mahal. You have Bombay, Delhi, madras, Goa, and the Himalayas! You have 1.3 billion people, and an endless array of languages in each state.
2. Italy
This is honestly my favourite country ever. I''ve been there 3 times so far and each time it takes my breath away even more. The food is arguably the best in the world. The language is melodic and beautiful. The people are passionate! You have Milan, Florence, Venice, Naples, cinque terre, and obviously Rome!

Ok so the US is huge. Like really huge. Imagine driving for a day and still be in the same state. Yes Texas I''m looking at you. The vast amount of things you can see, do and experience is overwhelming. Just spending 1 month in New York City alone is justifiable. Now throw in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, Miami, Washington D.C. , Boston and dozens more. The terrain is unbelievably diverse. From Yellowstone to Venice beach to Yosemite to Niagara Falls. The concrete jungle of NYC, the ever picturesque Los Angeles and its surrounding smaller cities. You could say everything that we know in the 21st century was probably started somewhere in America. The food is so original and yet so different from their native counterparts. It truly is fusion at its best!

Ok so politics aside, Israel is one of the most fascinating countries to me. Born out of tensions and not just surviving, but thriving amidst animosity and death threats, Israel still maintains its liberal look on life and probably has the best party scene in the Middle East, with Lebanon or turkey coming in a distant second. Yet, the birth of the Abrahamic religions still hold significance to millions/billions around the world. A nice east-meets-west, best of old and new kind of place. The people are beautiful yet strong and resilient.

Omg? Have you seen Barcelona? It is just breathtakingly and painfully beautiful. Italy may be my favourite country but my Favourite city has probably gotta be Barcelona. The beaches are to die for!!! That Latin flair for life is intoxicating. And Madrid! One of the best party scenes in Europe and the world! The countless islands that Spain possess. Each one couldn''t be more different from the other, yet you still get the same relaxing holiday feel and never wanna leave. Oh, such a individual question. It’s so hard to tell you what places to visit, because this depends so much on your preferences, taste and outlook on the world.
Assuming that you want as diverse an impression of the world as possible, including geographic, cultural and historical variety you’d be well-advised to travel to larger countries. I’m further assuming there’s no budget or time constraits here.
1. The United States. Love ’em or hate ‘em, they’ve made their mark on the world. And if you want to get an understanding of the place that shaped the world’s destiny so much in the past decades, you’ll have to go and visit the actual place. Bonus: it is geographically incredibly diverse, so you’ll see anything from desert, swamps, snow capped peaks, prairies to urban landscapes.

3. South Africa. Here’s your dose of Africa. The place is modern and getting around is convenient. The animals are amazing, the landscapes beautiful. You’ll get an impression of African culture and a look at one of the more complex societies of the planet - it’s a place where conflict, tragedy and hope rub shoulders.

4. France. France will satisfy some of your ‘Old Europe’ needs. There’s Paris, one of the most spectacular cities on earth. There’s castles, wine, countless museums with spectacular art, great cuisine, beautiful landscapes from the windswept Normandie to the sun-drenched Cote d’Azur. Alternatively, I’d also recommend Italy if you’re not too happy with France.
5. Israel. Great destination to get a bit of a middle eastern vibe. Be sure to visit some Arab villages or the West Bank, too. It’s where three of the world’s major religions clash with each other, so there’s a lot of history and culture. Also, the political situation in Israel will remind you that normality and political chaos can sometimes lie closely together. It’s just a short drive from the hedonistic beaches of Tel Aviv to orthodox districts of Jerusalem and from there to the battleground that is the West Bank.

1. Japan - a cultural shock. A beautiful country with a violent’ oppressive history. Mega cities. A view into the future. But also very aware, attached, and respectful of its past. China offers a number of similarities but I don''t think it is as welcoming as Japan is, (yet), and remains rough around the edges as it continues its march towards growth.
2. Sub Saharan Africa - I visited Uganda and the experience marked me. My prejudices and understanding about the people, scale, challenges and opportunities that Africa and countries like Uganda face were strongly confronted. The beauty of the country, the extraordinary wildlife, the kindness of the people, the abundance of food, the rural poverty, the ugly politics, the terrible transport networks; all left a strong impression on me.

3. US - like many millions of people around the world, US culture, movies, TV, news and sports have had an important impression on me. I always wanted to go to the US to compare the reality to what I had imagined it to be. Ultimately, it was very similar to what I expected, which is a lot of fun. You feel at home easily enough, although everything isn''t quite as you are used to. It is also much more complex and contradictory than how the TV series I grew up with portrayed it. The politics, the natural beauty, the sheer size, variety and emptiness of the rural areas contrast starkly with the motorways, repetitive fast food restaurants, the vast homogenous culture and the skyscrapers. The whole, filled with some of the most approachable people I''ve ever met, makes the US a great country to visit.

Morocco (or another of the Muslim countries bordering the Mediterranean) - the beauty, mystery and sheer weight of history that hangs heavy in the historical Islamic cities are something that must be experienced first-hand. The differences across the borders are important but there is a strong common culture, drawn from the common Islamic history, which has always drawn me. To hear the call to prayers sung from a mosque’s minaret at sunrise or sunset is one of the most magical moments any holiday can offer.

5. Thailand/Cambodia/Myanmar - I spent one month travelling around these countries last Christmas and the whole experience was amazing. The street food, the smelly markets, the heat and high humidity and the bad traffic are common to many countries in the region but the colours, friendliness of the people, originality of the food and the mind-boggingly rich culture of the region make this a must-visit region. Add to this the deep roots of human spirituality which flourished from the old civilisations in this region and the traumatic recent history and a visit to these countries offers a wild sensory ride and a deeply moving interpretation of the human experience.
PS. My top 5 wishlist: India, Indonesia, Madagascar, Iran, South America. (Please let me know what you think of this list in the comments section below)
