Chapter III

At midnight,originally quiet dormitory was alarmed by the harsh reveille.Red light filled the passages immediately.In an instant,all soldiers in dreamland changed into action state.Karl bounced off the bed,wear the uniform and rushed out of the door,only taking 10 seconds.His leader Miller had already arrived at the gathering place,dispatching the troops.Not only ‘FAK’ but also many weaponry were changing into perparedness.Countless aircraft engines roared with many pilot lamps flashing.All the people were busy on their own positon,many huge iron monsters were put into the belly of transport aircrafts.When Karl ran to the gathering place,two tilt-rotors leaning forward passed over him.The strong downwash flow almost blew him down.

“All members attention!Boarded!”shouted Miller.

The giants in front of Karl began swallowing these soldiers who ran forward in lines continuously.In the same time,the structures in the front slowly moved away,seting aside a wide airstrip.

“Everybody listen,this is not manoeuvre!this is not manoeuvre!”Just boarded the plane,Kova’s voice came from the broadcast.

“During the task,everybody, check your safety devices!Once the plane couldn’t fly anymore,jump out of the plane,keep away from former place!”

“Before order,everybody on standby!”

Despite of the noisy environment,a obvious sense of silence could be felt in the cabin.

“Clear?”Miller’s bellow broke up the silence.

“Yes sir!”Someone answered.

“Did you not eat dinner!?Once again!”

“Yes sir!!!”

“Check now!”

Everyone quickly started checking and preparing the fighting weapons.

In the cockpit,pilot picked intercom, “AT03,K0947,ready,over.”

Some same saying came from it: “AT03,K0934,ready,over”, “AT03,K0944,ready,over”……

“Tower received,clear for take-off,over.”

The pilot pushed on a button,then the plane deployed two giant vector nozzles on its flanks.

When the light stopped flashing,suddenly,bright plume emerged in the nozzles with sound that made all the soldiers trembled.Listening the vibrating sound,Karl grasped the seat belt more tightly.Jessica sitting beside him muttered: “Now I know why the damn seats are transverse. ”

When the operator push the ‘launch’button,a huge feeling of being pressed came to Karl,even influencing his facial muscle.The adrenaline rush made them clear that this giant is performing a catapult takeoff!Two long plume speed through the runway,while six engine cores bigger than a car accelerate the plane from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2 seconds.

No long after,weightlessness told “FAK” that they had taken off.Seconds passed by,the previous base’s noise suddenly disappeared.However,the take-off wasn’t on the ground,but at the artificial opening which was on the steep cliff.Karl and his comrades didn’t know,just then, they had flied into Patanic airspace.

The transport cabin had no windows,the soldiers could only saw the flickering pilot lamp in the dark circumstance.

“Hey,Karl.”A low voice in the noisy plane woke up dozing Karl.

Opening his eyes,Karl found it was Jessica.

“Did not sleep for a while?”Asked Karl.

“A little excited,sleepless.”

“So you woke up me?”Karl said with a wry smile.

“Sorry,man,I got too bored,chat something with me.”

“Aren’t you scared to be scolded by Mr.Stone?”

“Miller？He has gone to the front cabin long ago.”

“You see that?”

Jessica said with a little pride:“Yeah.”

“How?”

Jessica pointed at Karl’s head with his index finger.Karl then also got the ability to see in the darkness——He opened the night vision device.

This time,Karl had a good look in the plane.The whole plane could be said with one word: “big”.Some small planes could be put in the plane.In his memory,he only saw this kind of giant plane in the central base of air force.Even such a big plane,it used three planes to transport all the “FAK”.

“What do you think of this mission?”asked Jessica.

Thinking for a while,Karl answered: “Nothing.”

“Well, I could bet that we have never seen our enemy truly.”

“Didn’t Kova say so?”

“Airroute changed,wake up the soldiers.Tell them to be prepared.In the last order,we will go straight to site of accident to assit the second fleet in transporting.We will all go to the new base of? Anterior Defence Army.”

“Yes,sir.”

“When we got to the destination,turn on the window barrier.It’s time for the first sight.”

When Karl and Jessica was still talking,Miller went in the main cabin: “Everybody,wake up!Ready for getting destination!”

The light turned on,all the soldiers checked their devices again,waiting for that moment to arrive.Miller gave a glimpse at Karl when passing him,saying nothing.

It was 4 o’clock.Although in the rural areas there was no many lights,the big snow also reflect the light of oil lamp hang on the string of chalet.Violent cold wind ruthlessly crashed on the trembling roof.In the chalet,one man in thick clothes sat in front of a complex device,then picked up a Disc-shaped thing.

“Hello,Mr.Hawk.”

Slience for a while,a voice came from the other end of the thing owning a shape of phone.

This time,the other side laughed.

“Put it on the big screen.”

The helicopters on site surronded the “target” in a big circle,many devices attached on the body of these ones began working.The image of “l(fā)oading” were shown on the computers’screen in the helicopters,on the big screen in office of Central Military Commission,on the central moniter of Central Science And Technology Bureau,on the screen in conference hall of Central Top Council. Karl’s plane was also above it and began flying in a ring.The window barriers started to be pulled up.

In the endless darkness,even if the window barriers had been opened,nothing could be seen.

The basic UI interface appeared on the screen.

“Start scanning.”The leader of helicopters’team ordered.

Suddenly,six spotlights illuminated the sea under them.

While the helicopters gathered towards the center slowly,the light beam also rose gradually.The data behind “Height”, “Length”and “Rough Radius” also started to increase from zero.

About six seconds passed,something black in solid state emerged in the illumination area.It looked like a island,but also like some animal’s hard skin.

Karl could clearly saw,many huge and sharp things like mountains rose abruptly out of the ground, following the light.Even in such a height,all the members of “FAK”could feel the unknown intimidation coming from it.

“560,595,624…”The data of “Length” was also rising up.The 3D scanning image also appeared in the display interface.

With time’s pass, some helicopters changed into hovering state.But one was still rising up,scanning one thing which changed into white from black gradually.

Finally,the scanning stopped.

No expressions on watchers’faces,just the widely open eyes.

Kova turned her gaze to the final data on the screen.It shows:
