I apologize if my comment was offensive! I watched "The Grandmaster" just last month. One aspect that I couldn't agree with is that even though the film's aspect ratio is clearly 2.39:1 widescreen, it seems like they "captured footage and sound using a 16:9 ratio before filming, and only changed it to 2.39:1 in post-production." As a result, many scenes, especially close-ups of the characters' faces, appear as if their heads have been flattened (see image). Ironically, this film heavily relies on character close-ups.

So, while watching "The Grandmaster," I had the illusion that I was watching Liu Yuling's head being chopped off like in Uma Thurman's "Kill Bill." This is actually a pretty serious technical issue (involving pre-planning, directorial concept, cinematography, etc.), and it's definitely not something that should have happened.
